Coodes LLP is one of the leading law firms in Cornwall and Devon and the longest established firm in the region. With growing demand for our services, an opportunity has arisen for a Private Client Lawyer to join the team which consists of 16 specialist lawyers with a strong support team who advise clients on all aspects of managing their affairs. The department has been described by Chambers and Partners as “having a substantial regional presence” and “winning plaudits for its wills, trust and probate work” with a “growing Court of Protection and elderly client focus.”

What you will do: You will manage a diverse caseload, providing expert advice to clients across a broad spectrum of Private Client matters. This includes:

  • Drafting Wills
  • Advising on Tax and Succession Planning
  • Preparing Lasting Powers of Attorney
  • Creating and administering Trusts (in collaboration with our in-house Trust Manager)
  • Managing Estate Administration

Qualifications you need: We welcome applications from Solicitors, Chartered Legal Executives, or Lawyers with proven experience in a Private Client setting, ideally with 5+ years of post-qualification experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience you need:

  • Proficiency in advising clients on inheritance tax mitigation, estate and succession planning, and trust management.
  • Experience in handling a varied and complex caseload, including the creation of trusts and the administration of complex, taxable estates.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and drafting skills for Wills, Trusts, and Powers of Attorney.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team, including mentoring and supporting junior team members.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build relationships with clients and provide clear and empathetic advice.
  • Active participation in the firm's business development initiatives, such as networking and marketing efforts.
  • Willingness and ability to travel within the county as required.

Location: Truro ideally, although we are open to discussion regarding which of our eight locations best suits you. In addition to our offices, the firm aims to enable as many staff as possible to incorporate an element of remote work into their working week if they so wish.

Hours: This is a full-time position. 35 hours a week Monday to Friday; however, we welcome applications from candidates looking for alternative working arrangements.
