An opportunity has arisen for a Principal Planning Officer to join the Development Management team. As a Principal Planning Officer you will:

  • Lead and inspire a team of Planning Officers, providing guidance, support, and professional development.
  • Ensure the delivery of a high-quality planning service.
  • Manage your own caseload of more complex and high-profile planning applications.
  • Work to tight deadlines.
  • Provide professional pre-application advice to the public, members and developers via our pre-application advice service and our duty officer service.
  • Present applications at Planning Committee meetings and respond to questions from members.
  • Represent the authority at appeal.
  • Provide appropriate guidance to team members to enable them to be able to undertake their work in a professional and efficient manner.
  • Monitor performance within the team and deal with any performance issues.

We are looking for someone with:

  • A Degree in Planning or equivalent qualification.
  • Membership of the RTPI.
  • Comprehensive experience in development management.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and manage a team effectively.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • The ability to handle complex applications with confidence and sound professional judgement.
