About the Role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and committed Cook-in-Charge to lead the catering service at Ysgol San Sior, delivering nutritious, high-quality meals that support the wellbeing of pupils, staff, and visitors. This is more than just a cooking role – it’s an opportunity to take ownership of a vital service, lead a small team, and help shape a positive mealtime experience in a busy school environment. You’ll be at the heart of the school day, creating meals that fuel learning and bring comfort and joy to the school community.
Responsibilities
- Organise, prepare and serve food at lunchtime for the students, staff and visitors of Ysgol San Sior.
- Provide on-the-job training for new cooks and colleagues.
- Cook the meals required, manage portion control, food service, ordering, washing up and cleaning of the kitchen and dining room.
- Be prepared to undergo appropriate training and development, sometimes outside normal working days or hours by prior arrangement – e.g., Intermediate Food Hygiene and Basic Nutrition.
- Perform associated clerical duties.
Qualifications
- Willingness to undergo a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service disclosure (formerly the Criminal Records Bureau).
- Strong organisational and motivating ability.
- Experience in a kitchen team environment.
- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
- Desirability of being able to communicate in Welsh.
The Welsh language commitment is valued, and application forms in either Welsh or English will not be treated less favourably.
