We are passionate about working together to improve the quality of lives of children and young people to ‘have the best life possible’ by providing them with a supportive environment that is centred around their individual needs. This will be achieved by promoting and valuing ‘Active Support’, ‘Positive Behaviour Support’, ‘Person Centred Planning’ and the ‘Reduction of Restrictive Practices’. By putting the individual at the centre of all support planning and developing strategies, we will enable them to develop skills in all aspects of their daily lives, build strong relationships, develop independent living skills, and become active members within their local communities through delivering high-quality care.

Building positive and constructive relationships with the individuals you support is a vital component of being a valued support worker. Therefore, having a friendly, supportive nature with a positive outlook on life is essential, and being passionate about supporting people to be the best that they can be is what we are all about.

What will the job entail?

  • You will assist children and young people to have their voice heard and support them to develop skills towards their longer-term future.
  • You will plan and implement imaginative activities that will help them to develop skills.
  • You will understand that some children communicate their thoughts and feelings using behaviours of concern and will have a ‘can do’ approach to teach the child to communicate in a different way; team working is key.
  • You will work as part of a team out in the Day Service, local community, or family homes.
  • Motivating and supporting the individual to take part in a wide range of special interests and activities that support their health and wellbeing such as trampolining, visiting the beach/park, walking, swimming, baking/cooking, playing games, singing and dancing, crafts, to name a few.
  • Other duties may include assisting children and young people with their personal care needs, including manual handling.
  • As a support worker, you would need to demonstrate an ability to be creative and open-minded as you assist people towards achieving their goals, whilst also helping the team to provide a safe, caring, and learning experience for people with disabilities.
  • Resilience is a must in our care sector. The ability to remain calm and supportive is essential.
  • There will be a requirement to work some unsocial hours such as weekends and evenings, but we will work with you to ensure a home/work life balance.
  • You will attend specialist training to give you the skills to help children and young people fulfil their lives.

You will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure check by the Disclosure & Barring Service and appointment will be subject to 2 satisfactory references. The team delivers services 365 days of the year during the day, evening, and weekend. We are therefore looking for individuals who have a flexible approach to the working hours to meet the demands of the service.
