The Exposure Management (EM) function creates a competitive advantage through industry-leading Decision Making enabled by comprehensive data and cross-functional analytics. You will be supporting the Convex Exposure Management (EM) team in the management of catastrophe risk, specifically with regards to reinsurance. Using the catastrophe vendor model, you will liaise regularly with the third-party modelling team, ensuring queries are answered, processes are followed and providing help and guidance where needed. You will ensure the integrity of the model output and work towards continual improvement of processes. Engaging actively with the Underwriters, you will bridge the gap between underwriting and the third-party modelling team, resulting in increased transparency of modelling and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining an excellent relationship with third-party modelling team, answering queries and providing ongoing guidance.
- Supporting the Reinsurance Lead to ensure accurate and timely completion of BAU tasks, focused on Property Reinsurance.
- Communication with the Underwriters on modelling queries and explanations, ensuring a high level of confidence.
- Maintaining the EM BAU workflow.
- Peer reviewing third party output, providing teaching and recommend improvement strategies where necessary.
- Getting involved with quarterly roll-ups, including checking outputs and explaining changes to UWs.
- Completing BAU tasks when required to ensure the timely turnaround of regular reporting.
- Completing ad-hoc analytics requests.
- Assist the EM team with ongoing projects, including collaboration projects with wider Analytics.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- 2-4 years experience using a third-party catastrophe model, ideally for reinsurance (though not essential).
- Highly analytical and a graduate in a scientific or numerate subject.
- A good grasp of the re/insurance market, re/insurance modelling complexities and catastrophe model methodology.
- Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to explain complex data and ideas.
- Team player and collaborative in nature.
- Efficient and organised worker with a mindset for continuous improvement.
- Proficient in SQL / R/ Python or other coding languages.
