Convex is looking for a numerically gifted Credit Analyst to join our Political & Credit Risks underwriting team as an Underwriter. This is a transition path for a high-performing Credit Analyst to move from evaluating financial data to making real-world underwriting decisions. You'll become part of a team of experienced Underwriters and Insurance professionals, who are keen to mentor and guide you into the industry. You'll add value with your robust understanding of a company's balance sheet and financial data, helping us to rationalise risk and make informed decisions about the business we choose to write.

Your Journey: You won't be an insurance expert on day 1, so your first 18-24 months will focus on doing what you're good at while we introduce you into the world of Speciality Insurance. You may still be studying towards the CFA, which we are keen to help you complete. Thereafter, around year 2-3, you may like to study for the ACII which would help you obtain a better insight into the insurance industry and relevant terminology. During this initial period, you will join in meetings with Brokers, learn to understand how an insurance contract is pieced together and understand quoting terms. Once you've completed this period of learning, your prospects are to gain underwriting authority and you will move into a position to meaningfully contribute towards the growth of our book.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deep dive into balance sheets and financial data to rationalise risk and help us make the right underwriting decisions.
  • Reviewing information memorandums and providing feedback to aid in making sound long term decisions on risks that are written.
  • Meeting and building relationships with our major existing clients across the globe and seeking out new target clients.
  • Undertake analysis of the portfolio to identify business opportunities, products and clients, ensuring a robust business case.
  • Ensure risks are written within the agreed parameters; making sound long term decisions on risks that are written, with a focus on consistency and considered risk appetite.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Degree from a reputable university in either Economics, Politics or International Relations.
  • Studying towards the CFA.
  • About 2-4 years of experience in Credit Analysis at a financial institution or ratings agency.
  • Experience as an Underwriter will be considered though isn't a must.
  • Ability to deconstruct a balance sheet with ease and have a broad, curious world-view.
  • Analytical approach, with the ability to move from an opinion-based to a decision-based mindset.
  • Articulate communicator, who enjoys building relationships internally and externally of the organisation.
  • Identify with the Convex values and excited to contribute meaningfully and visibly to our organisation.

Our offer to you: We are nimble, fast and unburdened by legacy systems. Since our inception in 2019, we've been expanding rapidly and continue to pursue growth on which you will be able to make a tangible impact. We operate in a flat hierarchy, using outsourcing and technology where possible, allowing us to focus on collaborating closely to service our clients. Our culture is important to us and we live by our values in everything that we do. Working in the insurance industry offers you an opportunity to be at the forefront when world-events happen while working with talented individuals, and maintaining a health work-life balance.
