Description

Working as part of the Finance Team, you will report directly to the Group Financial Controller with responsibility for overseeing all aspects of the financial close and financial reporting processes, including the preparation of accurate, timely and compliant financial statements under US GAAP, UK GAAP and Lux GAAP. In your capacity as Head of Financial Reporting, you will also act as the Luxembourg Financial Controller with accountability for the CES (Convex European entity) regulatory reporting, financial accounting processes and controls. Furthermore, you will be responsible for managing the outsourced teams in various locations who are responsible for Financial Reporting. As our successful candidate, you will embody the Convex values and share your skills and experience across Convex.

Some of the key tasks may include:

  • Maintain oversight of the full financial close process each month, ensuring all SOX controls have been operated in line with expectations and validating the financial results including the Group Consolidation whilst ensuring that reporting deadlines are met.
  • Ongoing review of monthly Balance Sheet reconciliations across the Group, supporting the various teams in identifying and resolving process deficiencies which cause reconciling items.
  • Design new operational accounting policies, processes and controls for the implementation team to support new business initiatives and improve financial reporting processes.
  • Maintain oversight of all financial and regulatory activities relating to CES, engaging closely with the various outsourced providers to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Support the successful completion of the audit whilst acting as the primary point of contact for the external auditor for all matters relating to CES.
  • Partner with the Luxembourg CFO in the preparation of Audit Committee and board papers, liaising with various finance teams to ensure papers are updated appropriately, and any queries from the CFO are driven to conclusion.
  • Stay up to date with the latest changes in accounting standards and regulations, enforcing adherence to European regulatory and statutory reporting requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • 10+ years prior experience in (re)insurance accounting, with proven experience in reviewing and preparing GAAP financial statements.
  • Experience of running and improving financial reporting and close processes, with a keen interest in deploying new technology to automate and simplify processes.
  • Experience in dealing with financial statement complexity, understanding financial position and key P&L drivers, and interfacing with CFOs.
  • Experience in leading smaller engagements or components of large, complex operations.
  • Experience identifying business issues, owning responsibility for the quality of deliverables, managing stakeholder relationships, and developing persuasive recommendations.
  • Critical thinking coupled with advanced analysis and problem-solving techniques; business and data analysis as well as MS Excel skills are essential.
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, with business stakeholders.
  • Simplify complex reporting concepts, overcome operating obstacles, and drive balanced decision making for improvements.
  • Deploy good judgement in managing competing and conflicting priorities.
  • Inspire collaboration with your peers and participate in creating an environment that encourages learning and growth.
