Maintenance Electrician
Job Description
With full support from the wider team, the electrician will be taking the lead on the electrical installation and maintenance of commercial solar assets at STFC RAL.
They will be responsible for the periodic testing, commissioning and certification of the AC and DC side of our systems.
To include cabling, inverters, connection to the distribution switchgear and comms.
We maintain over 14000 panels and 150 inverters across roof top and car port systems across site.
Maintenance includes annual cleaning, repairs and replacements, testing and swapping optimisers and inverters.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience installing and maintaining commercial switchgear and containment and comfortable working with small teams of operators and be interacting with clients.
General Duties
- Maintenance of renewable energy technologies
- Ensure that all systems are maintained to a high standard and are compliant with our design documentation
- Test the AC/DC systems confirming the system is safe, in working order and to industry standards.
- Completing all commissioning routines and tests forms and issue certification
- Make sure all work complies with current regulations and site-specific RAMS
- Communicate and assist with any project designs and surveys
- Attend meetings with the client appointed project coordinator and provide progress reports.
- Maintain a strong level of communication with both the site team, design team and management.
- Complete condition reports and upload evidence and photos to the appropriate project folder with accompanying report/overview
- Ensure all cable management/containment, runs and building penetrations are compliant to regs and project specifications.
- Inspect, test and replace faulty components and liaise with the manufacturer to initiate warranty replacements
- Be comfortable discussing faults with the manufacturer’s technical team to resolve issues
- Be comfortable lone working and working at heights
- Inspect, test commission and generate reports/certs on
- Voltage, current and continuity of all AC/DC cables (including battery systems)
- Connections to equipment
- DC string tests
- AC tests of inverters, isolators, distribution, switchgear, protective devices
- Earth tests
- Correctly identify all components and serial numbers/models within commissioning documentation
Essential Criteria
- Inspection & Testing experience
- Previous customer service experience
- Professional and polite at all times
- Proactive and self-motivated
- Full driving licence
- Must live within 40 miles of OX110QX
Desirable Criteria
- Installation of roof mounting systems
- Stringing and Installation of Solar modules
- Installation and commissioning of inverters
- Experience with Solar Edge systems
