With full support from the wider team, the electrician will be taking the lead on the electrical installation of commercial projects. They will be responsible for the installation, commissioning and certification of the AC and DC side of our systems, including cabling, inverters, batteries, and connection to the distribution switchgear. Projects range from small installations within the southeast to large commercial projects nationwide. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience installing commercial switchgear and containment, experience with managing small teams of operators, and be comfortable interacting with clients.

General Duties:

  • Installation of renewable energy technologies
  • Lead a team ensuring that all systems are installed to a high standard and delivered on time and are compliant with our design documentation
  • Once the installation is completed, you will be required to test and commission the AC/DC systems confirming the system is safe, in working order and to industry standards
  • Completing all commissioning routines and tests for certification and sign-off of projects
  • Make sure all work complies with current regulations and site-specific RAMS
  • Communicate and assist with any project designs and surveys
  • Maintain a strong level of communication with both the site team, design team and management

Specific Duties:

  • Manage all electrical aspects of the project from inception to completion, ensuring it is delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
  • Undertake site surveys to establish local conditions which impact design
  • Train Junior Installers
  • Manage and respond to daily project requirements
  • Proactively solve issues encountered on site in conjunction with the site engineers
  • Regularly communicate with clients regarding the progress of the project
  • Complete paperwork prior to, throughout and following installations, in compliance with MCS standards and procedures
  • You will be the nominated technical person for all MCS and NAPIT accreditation and sign offs
  • You will be the nominated technical person for the company, which will require you to help prepare and maintain the MCS QMS database and attend all inspections, witnessing/inspections and handovers of projects

Scope of duties:

  • Site survey capturing:
    • All available space/measurements for arrays
    • All available space/measurements for switchgear in plant rooms etc
    • Roof/equipment location condition report (Existing LPS)
    • Highlight any structural nonconformities
    • Routes for all services (noting potential access/shared space issues)
    • All existing AC characteristics, spare ways, board type, space for additional equipment
    • Document the locations and access to each area and distances between connected equipment locations
    • Evidence to be uploaded to the project folder with accompanying report/overview
  • Work with the design team to create an AC specification that is compatible with the Solar design
  • Ensure the AC specification is compliant with the proposed functionality of the solar design as well as relevant regulations and site power/switchgear constraints
  • Detail comms and fire and safety specifications
  • Work with the design team to create a schematic of the proposed system
  • Ensure that all cable management from each location is compliant with regulations, guidance and tender specifications
  • Create a bill of materials based on the site assessment and design
  • Attend prestart meetings to discuss survey findings and the delivery of the system, including materials cost and installation timeframes/scheduling
  • Ensure the electrical team are informed of the scope, their duties and provide a schedule of tasks for them to follow
  • Supervise the team on site during installation and regularly inspect their work
  • The lead electrician will work closely with the Project Manager to ensure that all works are planned, access equipment and materials are agreed/available in time for the works
  • Any deviations from the schedule are identified as soon as practicable and discussed with the Project Manager
  • Where subcontractors are to be used, their work must be inspected and confirmed as acceptable/compliant with regulations and project specifications
  • Ensure all cable management/containment, runs and building penetrations are compliant to regulations and project specifications
  • Inspect, test commission and generate reports/certs on:
    • Voltage, current and continuity of all AC/DC cables (including battery systems)
    • Connections to equipment
    • DC string tests
    • AC tests of inverters, isolators, distribution, switchgear, protective devices
    • Earth tests
    • Correctly identify all components and serial numbers/models within commissioning documentation
    • MCS forms to be completed

  • Inspection & Testing experience
  • Previous customer service experience
  • Professional and polite at all times
  • Proactive and self-motivated
  • Full driving licence
  • Must live within 40 miles of Canterbury

Desirable Criteria:

  • Installation of roof mounting systems
  • Stringing and Installation of Solar modules
  • Installation and commissioning of inverters, hybrid inverters and batteries
  • Experience with SolarEdge systems
  • Experience managing a team on site
  • Willing to travel and stay away as and when required
  • Experience with LPS systems
