The Role

You will be responsible for delivering excellence in project management by leading and managing the delivery of projects on time, to the required quality and within the allocated budget, including primary customer contact. This position reports to the Senior Director of Project Management and Engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver a variety of projects to customer satisfaction, on time delivery with a “beat the budget” mindset while managing and mentoring the project team resources
  • Initiate and sustain project related documentation consistent with the Project workbook including Budget management, Labour forecasts, Risk Register, Schedule, Open Issues list, Change Management/ECO tracker, Lessons learned and Final acceptance testing
  • Maintain a detailed schedule (MS Project for complex jobs) with a clearly identified Critical Path, ensuring the customer and project team are aware of related constraints
  • Provide project leadership
  • Liaise directly with customers to understand their needs (commercial and technical)
  • Identify risk areas and generate a plan to mitigate them
  • Provide regular reporting to senior management and customers
  • Budget validation and control
  • Control all project changes that impact scope, schedule, budget or FAT/SAT acceptance testing by using Convergix tools and systems to log initial change requests from the Customer or the project team. After requests are logged, follow the Convergix change management process to ensure proper resolution
  • Hold project close‑out meeting to identify areas that were successful, or areas which need improvement

Programme Management

  • Define key project milestones
  • Allocate sufficient resource to carry out the job
  • Co‑ordinate all internal project actions/departments
  • Proactively ensure plan adherence by all participants
  • Ensure customer is kept up to date with progress
  • Ensure project plan and other documents are up to date
  • Identify problems/issues in advance and plan resolution

Project Management

  • Concept validation within budget
  • Co‑ordinate between all technical departments to ensure all aspects of the project are under control (design, software, electrical etc.)
  • Ensure that the purchasing department is aware of the schedule and knows the target delivery dates
  • Manage the build team (electrical & mechanical) ensuring milestones are visible and reachable
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained for all aspects
  • Ensure the work area is kept safe and tidy
  • Ensure regular updates are given to the Convergix build team
  • Lead machine debug and commissioning
  • Identify material or resource shortages
  • Schedule/supervise machine strip‑down, shipping and installation including on‑site management at customer premises
  • Ensure completion of final actions/snag lists from customer
  • Identify problems/issues in advance and plan resolution

Essential Qualifications

  • Strong project management experience within a relevant industry (engineering)
  • Demonstrable evidence of successful project delivery on multiple projects and multi‑disciplinary team basis
  • Understanding of capital equipment engineering systems/automation
  • Degree calibre with a project management aptitude
  • Working knowledge and practical application of project management planning methodologies and tools preferred
  • Commercial awareness with contractual as well as project experience / knowledge
  • Hunger for success, personal drive and motivation – a proactive can‑do attitude
  • Communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels, within the team, wider business and suppliers
  • Ability to organise, prioritise and maintain relevant information to support the business
  • Sound analytical skills, good problem solver
  • Organised and able to multi‑task in a demanding environment, comfortable to operate under pressure, to lead and or be part of a team
  • Excellent customer service and relationship building skills
  • Creative ability to develop new ideas and implement improvements

Desirable

  • Experience within the automation industry is highly preferred
  • PMP certification or similar is highly desirable
