At Convergence Group, we’ve spent the last 20+ years building a business driven by ambition, innovation, and exceptional people. We design and manage enterprise WAN, LAN, WiFi and Security solutions for some of the UK’s most demanding organisations – and we’re growing fast. Now we’re looking for a Solutions Architect to play a key role in shaping customer outcomes and driving technical excellence across our business.

What It’s Really Like Here

The pace and intensity are higher than most environments in our sector. The workload is typically around 30% greater than many people will have experienced elsewhere – not because we are chaotic, but because we are ambitious and constantly building. We grow organically and through acquisition, continuously integrating, improving and raising the bar. The landscape evolves, priorities shift, and expectations rise. If you prefer a predictable, static environment, this probably won’t feel comfortable. If you are energised by growth, movement and high standards, it can be deeply rewarding. Your strengths will have a bigger platform here – and you will be stretched behaviourally more than in most environments. We value respectful honesty: anyone can challenge an idea; hierarchy doesn’t protect thinking and getting it right matters more than being right. Ego doesn’t perform well here; curiosity, learning and ownership do. We hire people who are already strong at their craft – the stretch at Convergence Group is navigating pace, complexity and constant evolution. This environment isn’t for everyone, but for the right person it offers an exceptional opportunity for impact, growth and accelerated development.

What you’ll do as our Solutions Architect

  • Design tailored LAN & WAN solutions that fit perfectly with our product set.
  • Partner with Sales & Account teams to understand customer needs, attend meetings and reviews, and bring the tech know‑how that helps close deals.
  • Lead technical conversations with customers – simplifying complexity and building trust.
  • Produce professional documentation like SOWs, HLDs, and schematics that stand up to scrutiny.
  • Work cross‑functionally with Sales, Service Delivery, and Account Management teams to win new business, support renewals and keep current customers happy.
  • Track and manage activity in our CRM and contribute to a pipeline worth over £1m Gross Margin each year.
  • Optimise every solution so it’s profitable, reliable, and built to deliver long‑lasting value.

What we're looking for

  • 5+ years as a Solutions Architect (or similar) working closely with customers in the sales cycle.
  • A background in technical pre‑sales support in Managed WAN/LAN Services, ideally with Cisco, Extreme, or Fortinet tech under your belt.
  • Experience in network design, bespoke customer solutions and documentation.
  • WAN know‑how: Leased Lines, Carrier Ethernet, EFM, xDSL.
  • LAN knowledge across DC, core, aggregation, and access layers.
  • Up‑to‑date skills in SDN, SD‑WAN, NFV, and network virtualisation.
  • Wi‑Fi wisdom: CAPWAP, WPA, 802.1X, mesh and controllers.
  • Strong communication skills – you know how to talk to humans, not just switches.
  • UK driving licence & ability to pass BPSS and other clearance checks.

What’s in it for you

  • Salary: £65-88,000 + commission + car allowance for experienced A‑players.
  • Time off: 33 days holiday including bank holidays.
  • Benefits: Private medical, enhanced pension, income protection & life assurance.
  • Balance: Flexible core hours + hybrid working (2 days a month in our Solihull office).
  • Perks: Dog‑friendly office.

How to prepare for a job interview at Convergence Group

Brush Up on Your Technical Skills

For an IT consulting role, be ready to demonstrate your technical prowess. You might face questions on systems integration, cloud technologies, or even troubleshooting specific software. If you have experience with tools like AWS, Azure, or even specific programming languages, make sure you can talk about them fluently.

Showcase Your Problem-Solving Approach

IT consulting is all about solving problems for clients. Think about how you can illustrate your approach to a past challenge using the STAR method (Situation, Task, Action, Result). It's a great way to show how you tackle complex issues and come up with effective solutions.

Know the Business Impact of IT Solutions

When discussing your experiences, focus not just on the tech solutions you implemented, but also on their business impact. Employers want to see that you can connect IT with organisational goals. Prep examples that highlight how your tech contributions improved efficiency or reduced costs for past clients or projects.

Prepare for Behavioural Questions

Since IT consulting often involves teamwork and client interactions, expect behavioural questions that assess your interpersonal skills. Be prepared with examples that demonstrate your adaptability, communication skills, and how you handle client feedback. Before the interview, think of situations where you worked closely with clients to create effective IT strategies or changes.
