Want to be part of a company that’s on a mission to make business connectivity as easy to use as electricity, water, or gas? That’s exactly what we’re doing at Convergence Group - and we’re looking for a hands‑on, problem‑solving Field Engineer to join us, working with customers across the North of England.
What It’s Really Like Here
The pace and intensity are higher than most environments in our sector. The workload is typically around 30% greater than many people will have experienced elsewhere – not because we are chaotic, but because we are ambitious and constantly building. We grow organically and through acquisition, continuously integrating, improving and raising the bar. The landscape evolves, priorities shift, and expectations rise. If you prefer a predictable, static environment, this probably won’t feel comfortable. If you are energised by growth, movement and high standards, it can be deeply rewarding. Your strengths will have a bigger platform here — and you will be stretched behaviourally more than in most environments. We value respectful honesty: anyone can challenge an idea; hierarchy doesn’t protect thinking and getting it right matters more than being right. Ego doesn’t perform well here; curiosity, learning and ownership do. We hire people who are already strong at their craft — the stretch at Convergence Group is navigating pace, complexity and constant evolution. This environment isn’t for everyone, but for the right person it offers an exceptional opportunity for impact, growth and accelerated development.
What You’ll Be Doing As Our Field Engineer
- Build & Deliver – install WAN and LAN solutions (Ethernet, broadband, MPLS, Wi‑Fi, etc.), prepare and stage equipment ahead of deployment, and get hands‑on at customer sites bringing networks to life.
- Fix & Troubleshoot – act as the “boots on the ground” when issues arise, diagnosing hardware and software faults, restoring services quickly, and working closely with support teams and vendors to resolve more complex problems.
- Audit & Survey – visit customer sites to understand and document their existing setup, capturing key data such as firmware versions, serial numbers, and physical layouts (including photos), and carrying out Wi‑Fi surveys to optimise coverage (full training provided).
- Efficient task management and delivery – use ServiceNow to track and manage work, alongside network tools for monitoring, configuration, and testing (including iPerf and EXFO).
What We’re Looking For
- 2+ years’ experience in a busy telecoms, IT, or data centre environment (field-based preferred)
- Experience working directly with customers as an on‑site engineer
- CCNA (or working towards it), or similar vendor certifications (e.g. Fortinet, Extreme)
- Strong communication and people skills
- Calm and confident in high‑priority situations
- Full UK driving licence
- Able to pass BPSS, SC, and other clearances
The role details
- Field‑based, primarily across the North East and wider northern regions of the UK
- 37.5 hours per week (scheduled Monday to Friday between 7am‑7pm)
- On‑call rota with out of hours remuneration
What You’ll Get
- £30‑40,000 salary + company car
- On‑call allowance + overtime
- 33 days holiday (including bank holidays)
- Private medical insurance
- Enhanced pension, income protection & life assurance
- Dog‑friendly office – yes, really!
