We are seeking an experienced CIS Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer to support a Defence technology programme focused on the delivery, maintenance and enhancement of secure development, test and deployable environments. This is a hands-on engineering role supporting a mixture of on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring secure, reliable and resilient environments are available for development, testing and operational activities. The successful candidate will work across infrastructure, virtualisation, cloud services, security assurance and deployable CIS capabilities, supporting both technical teams and end users.
Responsibilities
- Manage and maintain secure on-premise and cloud-based test and development environments.
- Build, configure and administer Windows and Linux virtual machines.
- Install, configure and secure laptops and user devices in line with MOD security standards.
- Administer Active Directory environments and user access controls.
- Support secure remote access solutions for authorised users.
- Ensure infrastructure availability, performance and resilience across development and test environments.
- Perform vulnerability management, patching and security assurance activities.
- Maintain technical documentation, configuration records and architecture diagrams.
- Support deployable CIS capabilities for exercises and operational activities.
- Assist with the deployment and integration of emerging digital technologies, including AI and Large Language Model (LLM) environments.
- Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, system and connectivity issues.
- Work closely with engineers, developers and stakeholders across the programme.
Essential Skills
- Experience supporting MOD Communications and Information Systems (CIS) environments.
- BCIP and/or OpNET.
- Linux.
- Experience building and managing Windows and Linux virtual machines.
- Installing, configuring and securing laptops and end-user devices.
- Active Directory.
- Understanding of AI use cases and Large Language Models (LLMs).
Desirable Skills
- Kubernetes installation and cluster administration.
- Proxmox Hypervisor experience.
- Server installation, configuration and lifecycle management.
- Networking Engineering.
- CCNA level or equivalent.
- Cloud infrastructure experience, particularly Azure and Oracle Cloud.
Active SC Clearance is essential due to programme requirements.
