About the role
Convatec is seeking a Procurement Optimisation Intern to join our Procurement team, based at our manufacturing site in Deeside, UK. This role will support our journey to implement sustainable and efficient sourcing practices across the company. The internship will play a key role in analysing and optimising procurement and logistics activities across all categories: plastics, packaging, chemicals, rollstock, and metals. The role will help identify ways to improve freight choices, consolidate shipments, localise sourcing, and reduce duplication across business units. The internship gives the successful candidate the chance to contribute to an important transformation project while gaining broad experience across global procurement, supply chain, and sustainability. You will also support coordination across the Procurement team, working closely with supply chain colleagues and Category Managers to keep key initiatives moving.
Your main tasks
- Work with category managers and supply chain to identify inefficiencies and duplicated activities.
- Review current logistics flows to spot opportunities to shift shipments from air to sea and estimate potential savings.
- Analyse shipment patterns to identify where loads can be consolidated across business units.
- Support localisation by reviewing with Category manager opportunities for suppliers closer to our manufacturing sites.
- Estimate potential CO₂ reductions from localisation and shipment consolidation.
- Create clear reports, dashboards, and presentations to share findings and recommendations.
About you
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work with data.
- Interest in supply chain, procurement, logistics, or sustainability.
- Comfortable working with cross‑functional teams, including supply chain and category managers.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Organised, proactive, and able to handle multiple tasks.
- Good working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
- Curious, eager to learn, and willing to take a hands‑on approach.
Benefits
- Hands‑on, real work experience on live sustainability projects.
- Learning and development, including technical training and on‑the‑job mentoring.
- Exposure to a global matrixed organisation with cross‑functional teams.
- The opportunity to build in‑demand technical and professional skills.
- A strong foundation for your future career.
