Position Overview: The maintenance technician will be responsible for front‑line maintenance and breakdown response on a rotating shift basis at the Rhymney manufacturing facility. The main objective is to keep manufacturing assets safely operational, ensuring that production targets are met consistently through planned and reactive maintenance. The role covers a broad range of activities including maintenance, repair and continuous improvement of production equipment, chemical process plant, textile and conversion equipment, air compressors, boilers, chiller plant, HVAC, Building Management Systems and SCADA systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maximise uptime at Rhymney by performing planned and reactive maintenance and continuous improvement of process and facilities equipment.
  • Use plant metrics such as OEE and downtime to drive continuous improvement of process equipment.
  • Support the effective integration of new machinery/technology into Rhymney operations.
  • Electrical and mechanical problem solving and fault diagnosis across the full site.
  • Ensure the health and safety of all involved during engineering interventions.
  • Maintain the highest standards of housekeeping and GMP in all aspects of work.
  • Determine appropriate safety standards for new and existing equipment and methods of installation.
  • Issue permits and host service contractors following training.
  • Contribute to electrical specifications for machinery supply contracts and conduct electrical safety evaluations on supplied machinery and plant.
  • Capture engineering changes/modifications and keep Convatec drawings updated.
  • Support maintenance strategies, controls and recording systems for factory mechanical systems, plant and machinery.
  • Use the maintenance management system to log and record breakdowns and corrective actions.

Skills & Experience:

  • Understanding of clean‑room or controlled environment controls (HVAC, humidity and pressure cascades, etc.).
  • Broad experience in electrical systems, operations and maintenance, including heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, fire protection systems and LV electrical networks.
  • Fluent PC skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ideally MS Project, CAD.
  • General knowledge of BS 7671 (18th Edition) IEE Regulations.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and SCADA systems is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of CMMS systems such as Maximo.

Qualifications / Education:

  • HNC/ONC or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering preferred; experience managing electrical systems.
  • A recognised engineering apprenticeship completed within a regulated industry.

Working Conditions:

Approximately 30% of the time will be spent in an office‑based environment, with the remaining 70% in a process plant and clean‑room manufacturing environments.

Special Factors:

Available to work on own initiative, as a team player with minimal supervision, and able to react to variations or changes in process. Additional requirement to work weekends may exist.

Working Hours:

Shift basis: 6:00‑14:10, 14:00‑22:10, 08:00‑14:10. Call‑out coverage is required, and employees are scheduled to work one Saturday and Sunday every eight weeks.
