The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of Engineering across the site, working with their team to:
- Generate strategic plan for next 5 years for the department
- Manage department annual budget
- Manage Maintenance, Controls and Facilities departments
- Build and manage an Asset Health register
- Lead projects for the department
- Lead sustainability projects across the site
- Management of contractors & subcontractors
This role involves actively supporting the operations team in breakdown situations and driving the management of the Engineering team, leading a proactive and high standards of engineering culture. Leading, developing, and coaching the Engineering team to achieve exceptional standards within the department. The Engineering manager will work hand in hand with Manufacturing Lead and Shift Leads to communicate, prioritise and direct all technical matters that impact operational output and site production.
This role is responsible for setting Engineering objectives within the department, aligned with business objectives. The role ensures that Engineering & maintenance is efficiently operating within all company and sector guidelines (validated states, change control, quality standards are met). Works collaboratively with manufacturing shift leads to prioritise and align labour to manufacturing priorities, delivering monthly Safety, Quality, Delivery & Cost KPIs. Ensures site assets are compliant through Safety & Quality standards and metrics.
Hands-on role with direct leadership of Engineering & Maintenance team for the Rhymney site, ensuring maximum visibility of team across site to the factory team. Execute Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) driving down machine time loss supporting increased OEE year on year. Drives Maintenance compliance through safety & quality and drives team to real Root-Cause through effective analysis. Prioritises data to communicate within the organisation - decisions based on actual figures rather than intuition or observation alone. Manage planned maintenance execution and ensure 100% compliance. Be hands-on in supporting the Engineering team in breakdowns using skills and experience to guide and deliver CI mindset to improve the site performance via modern maintenance techniques.
Skills & Experience:
- Time served engineer
- Considerable knowledge and experience in manufacturing engineering is essential
- Knowledge of control systems, programming and technical fault finding is desirable
- Expert knowledge in mechanical/electrical and pneumatic systems
- Previous experience of improvement projects and leading teams
- Experience in a highly regulated maintenance environment is essential
- Management experience within a maintenance framework would be a distinct advantage
- Self-Motivation and flexibility of job assignments
- Blend of leadership and technical skills
- Strong interpersonal and written communication skills
- Results and data orientated
- Driven attitude with the ability to hold high working standards and challenge when required
- Must be able to build a strong working relationship with employees on shop floor
Qualifications/Education:
- Time served engineer (Electrical & Mechanical)
- Engineering Degree/HNC or higher – similar qualifications will be considered
- NEBOSH Health & Safety General Certificate Qualification
- Leadership and Management (ILM / CMI) level 5
- Project Management Qualifications
- ATEX DSEAR Qualifications
- Six Sigma Green Belt (preferred)
Travel Requirements:
Position may involve minimal & occasional travel.
Special Conditions:
Role is site-based split between operational areas, engineering areas, office-based work, contractor management and 'hands-on' tasks.
