About the Role
Serve as a Customs and Trade compliance subject matter expert for Convatec, helping develop, execute and monitor the overall customs and trade compliance program along with Global customs leadership and team. Provide compliance guidance, training and support to locations in key markets across Europe (focus), North America, Asia Pacific, and Latin America, building a standardized global customs program strategy based on best practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the Strategic Development, Delivery, and Execution of a standardized compliant international trade compliance program.
- Ensure import and export shipments conform to governmental rules and regulations by supporting customs activities in key markets and working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, manufacturing sites, warehouses, and distribution centers.
- Direct process responsibility for Customs and Trade Compliance program areas and oversee projects in the UK, NL, other Europe locations and global markets.
- Evaluate, investigate and mitigate potential customs and trade compliance risks as global trade conditions evolve.
- Support strategic initiatives, system implementations, process standardisation and integration of trade compliance requirements into other departments' processes.
- Collaborate with other functions to evaluate and assess customs and trade compliance requirements, identify and raise compliance risks and gaps, develop procedures, measure effectiveness, and deliver training.
- Assess customs activities in global markets to develop and implement standardised internal trade compliance controls and procedures for imported and exported raw materials, finished medical device products, equipment, and samples.
- Provide internal guidance and training on Incoterms rules and terms to ensure clear understanding of roles and responsibilities from a customs perspective.
- Audit, prevent, and manage root cause analysis and resolution of trade compliance issues and implement controls.
- Responsible for duty optimisation programmes and customs special procedures (Inward/Outward Processing Relief, Free Trade Agreements, AEO certification).
- Develop and maintain Trade Compliance KPIs to measure and monitor service provider performance, broker scorecards, compliance trends and risk assessment through trade data analysis.
- Create and provide periodic customs and trade compliance training to Convatec locations and functional groups.
- Assign/review global HTS codes and update SAP master data, Global Classification solution and customs broker database.
- Utilise entry verification integrated system solutions to automate and manage import entry data verification/audit, identify errors and address findings.
- Identify opportunities to implement technology tools that automate import and export compliance activities.
- Perform manual audits of entry data utilizing broker data, customs and PGA agency data; implement corrective actions to improve compliance and broker performance.
- Stay up to date on emerging international customs and trade regulations to determine impact for Convatec and educate stakeholders.
- Respond to changing product developments and distribution needs.
- Support wider customs and trade compliance team members as needed.
- Lead and facilitate projects as required.
Skills & Experience
- Extensive experience in international customs and trade compliance regulations, with direct management of compliance programmes.
- Global customs experience for multiple markets; ability to locate information for unknown markets.
- Strong knowledge of international trade, import and export regulations across all modes of movement.
- Knowledge of HTS classification for global markets.
- Knowledge of global trade agreements, including EU FTAs.
- Excellent communication with diverse audiences, multiālevel presentations, emails, meetings.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource Global Classification, Entry Verification, Import Management, or similar trade automation systems.
- Managing customs programmes globally (Inward/Outward Processing, AEO, FTAs).
- Analytical problemāsolving ability, data interpretation.
- Strategic thinking and execution of actionable plans.
- Fosters new ideas and strategies internally and externally.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
- Works on tight deadlines, prioritises effectively.

Qualifications / Education
- 8+ years of extensive experience in international trade compliance regulations (import and export).
- University degree in a relevant field desirable; not required with significant trade compliance experience.
