About the role:
The Customs and Trade Compliance Specialist will support the Customs and Trade Compliance Manager with operational guidance and support of Convatec locations in the UK and Europe. This role will support corporate international customs and trade compliance projects and will be the key contact for import and export operational questions. Must be a self-starter who enjoys partnering across the organization, working with governmental agencies, learning new things, researching new areas of customs and trade compliance, and having a proactive attitude.
Your key duties and responsibilities:
- Support Customs and Trade Compliance team in developing, delivering, and executing a standardized international trade compliance program within Convatec.
- Manage UK/NL (Europe focus) customs and trade compliance program, including import and export operations.
- Ensure shipments conform to regulations by managing inquiries from brokers, forwarders, manufacturing sites, and distribution centers.
- Handle monthly bill of discharge submissions for Inward Process Relief, reconcile import data, and audit declarations.
- Manage Northern Ireland declarations according to the Windsor Framework, ensuring timely submissions.
- Assist with root cause analysis of compliance issues and support resolutions with appropriate controls.
- Identify process improvements and support trade automation initiatives.
- Maintain records of customs and trade compliance activities.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures and work instructions.
- Support compliance activities and provide backup to the Compliance Manager and Department Lead.
- Review and update Harmonized Tariff Codes in SAP and other systems.
- Monitor broker performance and support KPI development.
- Develop and maintain trade compliance processes and training materials.
- Evaluate and mitigate compliance risks.
- Utilize global classification software to automate and audit HTS classifications and import entries.
- Perform manual audits and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Develop trade KPIs to monitor performance and compliance trends.
- Respond to product development, manufacturing, and distribution changes to resolve issues.
- Lead or facilitate trade compliance projects as required.
Skills & Experience:
- Knowledge of HTS classification for medical devices within UK and Europe.
- Experience with global customs programs, including Inward/Outward Processing and Free Trade Agreements.
- Ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences and levels.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Supportive of new ideas and strategies.
- Proficient in SAP, Microsoft Office, and trade automation tools.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and prioritize tasks.
- Independent and collaborative working skills.
- Strong listening and influencing skills.
- Self-educating in trade compliance areas.
- Experience with Thomson Reuters OneSource or similar systems is desirable.
- Healthcare industry experience is a plus but not required.
Qualifications/Education:
- University degree preferred but not mandatory with relevant experience.
Travel Requirements:
- Occasional office presence may be required for meetings or events.
