Position Overview:
The Global Head of Indirect Procurement is responsible for leading the strategic sourcing and procurement of indirect goods and services across Convatec’s Business Units. This role drives value creation, cost optimisation, supplier performance, and risk mitigation across various categories. The Head of Indirect Procurement will work in close partnership with senior business stakeholders, aligning procurement strategy to organisational priorities, ensuring operational excellence through best-in-class sourcing, supplier relationships and governance, and leading, coaching, and empowering the team to consistently deliver high performance and achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for indirect categories. Lead cross-functional teams to drive procurement transformation and innovation. Establish and manage category plans, supplier segmentation, and spend analysis.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build strong relationships with internal stakeholders such as business unit/functional heads, indirect procurement and other corporate functions and global teams as required to understand business needs and align procurement strategies. Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on supplier performance, cost management, and risk.
- Supplier Management: Lead supplier selection, negotiation, and contract management processes individually or as a team. Implement a supplier performance management framework and ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs). Drive supplier diversity, sustainability, and innovation initiatives.
- Operational Excellence: Implement procurement best practices, tools, and systems to improve efficiency. Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and cost-saving programs. Partner with Finance to ensure savings governance, baselining, and benefits tracking. Ensure robust third-party risk management across key suppliers, including compliance, data security and business continuity requirements.
- Team Leadership: Manage and develop a high-performing procurement team. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professional growth.
Key Deliverables / KPI’s:
- Accountable for global indirect spend strategy, governance, and value delivery across the enterprise.
- Identification and delivery of cost savings / cost avoidance targets across the organisation.
- Contract coverage / compliance.
- Supplier performance (SLAs, quality, continuity of supply and continuous improvement).
- Risks & Mitigations.
- Procurement cycle time / process efficiency.
- ESG supplier metrics as defined by the organisation.
Skills & Experience:
- Global Procurement Expertise: Demonstrated leadership across major indirect categories, including IT, Professional Services, Facilities / FM / Real Estate, HR services, Marketing, Travel, Utilities & Fleet. Experience managing global supplier relationships and navigating regional compliance requirements. Familiarity with ESG, supplier diversity, and sustainability practices.
- Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Ability to develop multi-year category pipeline and execute long-term sourcing strategies aligned with business goals. Strong analytical skills to interpret complex data, identify trends, and drive cost optimisation. Experience in establishing and driving procurement compliance, procurement best practice, category management, and supplier relationship management.
- Stakeholder Engagement & Influence: Proven ability to build trust and influence across senior leadership and internal teams. Skilled in navigating matrixed environments and aligning procurement goals with cross-functional priorities. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution capabilities.
- Communication & Leadership: Clear and confident communicator with the ability to present complex ideas to executive audiences. Inspirational leadership style that fosters collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. Experience leading and developing high-performing teams across geographies.
- Digital & Process Excellence: Proficiency in procurement technologies. Experience driving transformation, automation, and process standardisation. Knowledge of procurement governance, risk management, and contract lifecycle management.
Qualifications / Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or related field (MBA or equivalent preferred).
- MCIPS (CIPS Level 6) certification would be an advantage.
This is a hybrid role linked to our office in London, Paddington. This role can also be based in Lisbon, Portugal.
