The Large Independent Racecourse Group (LIRG) represents the five large, independently owned UK Racecourses. Already leading venues individually, in combination the group – comprising Ascot, Chester (including Musselburgh and Bangor on Dee), Goodwood, Newbury, and York – are hosts to some of the most iconic flat and jumps festivals, significant contributors to horseracing (including over £50 million in prize money) and exercise considerable influence within the industry.

We are looking for an exceptional individual to take up the high profile and influential role of Executive Director of LIRG. This is a unique opportunity to use your voice, gravitas, and in-depth knowledge of the industry to represent, be an ambassador for, and help shape the next few critical years for the Large Independents and be a positive force within the sport.

The role will involve working in close collaboration with the racecourses and within the key industry bodies, including the BHA and the RCA. Aspects of the role will include:

  • Gathering opinion, research and data;
  • Fact-based analysis;
  • Providing valuable insight, guidance and policy formulation;
  • Developing and articulating proposals;
  • Working constructively with other racing parties and stakeholders in developing strategies and policies in the interests of the sport and LIRG.

You will lead and represent the LIRG voice, playing an active role on industry bodies. As an ambassador for the LIRs, the successful candidate must have outstanding communication, leadership and diplomacy skills, be self‑motivated and have a track record in results delivery, and have a strong sense of personal integrity.

This role will require UK travel on LIRG business including considerable travel to London, but the opportunity exists for the successful candidate to also work from home or be based at one of our member Racecourses. We are open to discussing both full-time and part‑flexible working patterns, but it should be noted that this is a demanding and busy role.
