The Technical Sales Engineer’s primary responsibility is to maximize the UK and Ireland territory sales revenue through direct sales and achieve annual revenue targets. The Technical Sales Engineer is also responsible for managing, maintaining, and building client relationships within the UK and Ireland territory. The successful candidate will report directly to the General Manager of Controls UK but will work closely with its headquarters office in Liscate, Italy. The candidate will be based out of the Company’s office in Reading or out of his/her home office and will be expected to travel to visit customers and prospective customers as well as to the Company’s headquarters as reasonably requested by management.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop strong relationships with regional key customers in the Territory;
- Maintain regular contact with important customers, advisors, decision-makers, contractors, universities and government agencies;
- Track relevant projects within the Territory. Identify and maintain contact with project decision-makers at each phase of the sales cycle;
- Prepare quotations in a manner that produces the best opportunity for order conversion;
- Prompt follow-up of sales leads, quotes, and orders within the Territory;
- Prospecting and generating new leads through cold-calling, networking, referrals, etc;
- Generate sales reports and forecasts as requested by management;
- Meet or exceed regular sales targets for the Territory;
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries;
- Make technical presentations and demonstrating how a product will meet customer needs;
- Assist with on-site installations, service end calibrations when required (on occasions operate independently of Company’s engineer);
- Maintain all sales application software packages as directed by the Company;
- Stay current on product and applications knowledge;
- Attend and hold technical and sales training courses as required as well as attend industry trade shows and exhibits as required;
- Assist with accounts receivable collections as requested by the Company;
- Plan and comply with individual travel schedule;
- Provide market feedback to the marketing department;
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the management.
Experience, Skills and Education
- Sales professional with at least 5 years of experience in technical sales, materials testing industry preferred;
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent industry experience;
- Good understanding of operating analytical devices is essential;
- Self-motivator who is comfortable operating autonomously, yet within Company guidelines;
- Ability to relate well to people, especially other engineers and customers of various nationalities;
- Strong communication and presentation skills with professional image;
- Ability to travel at least 50% of the time;
- Technically savvy and able to communicate with civil engineers and technicians;
- Strong computer skills and experience with modern business software tools (CRM, MRP, Office);
- High degree of independent judgment and integrity.
