Control Cutter is a specialist offshore decommissioning company headquartered in Tananger, Norway, with offices in the UK and the US. Since 2010, our patented cutting technologies have helped clients improve performance, safety, and efficiency on topside and subsea operations worldwide. We aim to be our clients’ preferred partner – delivering world‑class service, every time.
The Role
We are growing and looking for a hands‑on Project Manager to lead complex offshore decommissioning projects. This is not a desk‑bound coordination role – it demands a leader who has earned their credibility on the tools, understands the technical realities of what we do offshore, and has the commercial sharpness to drive profitability from the first day of a project to the last. You will own the relationship with the client, mobilise and lead cross‑functional teams, and maintain relentless focus on performance – commercial, technical and operational – at every stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Ownership
- Own the project budget and financial performance from award through to close‑out, including cost control, forecasting, margin management and invoicing.
- Work closely with the Project Controller to monitor financials in real time and maintain accurate cost reporting.
- Drive identification and execution of variations and change orders – where scope changes, ensure it is captured, priced and approved.
- Understand the contract and protect Control Cutter’s commercial position throughout.
- Technical Leadership
- Bring genuine technical depth: understand what is being executed offshore and challenge engineering solutions.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, method statements, risk assessments and operational procedures.
- Ensure equipment selection, tooling and methodology are optimised for safe and efficient execution.
- Act as a technical sounding board for the offshore team and engineering function.
- Operational Delivery
- Plan, mobilise and execute projects on time and to scope – from kick‑off through offshore operations to demobilisation and close‑out.
- Develop and maintain detailed schedules, resource plans and logistics programmes.
- Coordinate mobilisation of offshore personnel, equipment and third‑party services.
- Apply and champion Control Cutter’s HSEQ standards throughout the project lifecycle – safety is non‑negotiable.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for the client – own the relationship, the communication and the reputation.
- Lead cross‑functional teams in a matrix environment through influence, clarity and trust.
- Manage client expectations proactively: inform early, never surprise, and always have a solution ready.
- Maintain the project risk register and conduct structured lessons‑learned reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
- Recognised background in relevant disciplines – subsea, mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, welding, rigging/lifting or similar.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Mechanical, Marine or related technical discipline is highly desirable.
- Formal PM certification (PMP, PRINCE2 Practitioner, APM PMQ or equivalent).
- 5+ years in project management within offshore, subsea, energy or heavy industry.
- Proven track record of delivering technically complex, commercial projects on time and to budget.
- Experience leading cross‑functional teams in a matrix environment without direct line authority.
- Proficiency in project scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera P6 or similar).
Personal Qualities
- Always on the ball – ahead of the project, not behind it; sees problems before they arrive.
- Commercially driven – thinks about margin, cost and value every day.
- Technically credible – has done the work; respected by teams and clients alike.
- Sense of urgency – moves fast, decides with confidence and does not let issues fester.
- Confident communicator across technical and commercial situations.
- Calm under pressure – composed, solution‑focused and decisive when it matters.
- Team player who builds teams that perform and holds themselves to the same standard.
What We Offer
- Accountability for real, technically demanding projects with direct commercial and operational impact.
- Work with industry‑leading patented technology and a team of specialists.
- A high‑performance culture built on trust, urgency and teamwork.
- Competitive salary package, project bonuses and offshore allowances.
- Genuine career progression for those who perform.
- Ongoing investment in your professional development, certification and technical knowledge.
