Role Description

This full-time Traffic Management Operative role is an on-site position based in or around Forres/Inverness. The role involves setting out, installing, maintaining, and removing traffic management systems, including cones, signs, barriers, and temporary traffic lights in line with current regulations and company procedures. Day-to-day tasks include loading and unloading vehicles, completing safety checks on equipment and vehicles, monitoring traffic flow, and responding to changing site conditions to maintain a safe environment for road users and workers. The operative will follow site plans, communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and contractors, and ensure all documentation and reporting are completed accurately. The role also requires adherence to health and safety standards, participation in toolbox talks, and flexibility to work varying hours, including some evenings and weekends, depending on project needs.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess practical skills in traffic management operations, including setting out and maintaining roadworks, using signs, cones, barriers, and temporary traffic signals. Full training will be provided for non experienced candidates.
  • Candidates should possess strong awareness of health and safety practices, including safe manual handling, working near live traffic, and following risk assessments and method statements.
  • Candidates should possess good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions, work cooperatively on site, and liaise professionally with clients and the public.
  • Candidates should possess basic numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to read site drawings, understand measurements, and complete required paperwork or digital reports.
  • Candidates should possess a valid UK driving licence (HGV or towing entitlement an advantage) and be willing to travel to different sites from the Forres base.
  • Candidates should possess reliability, a strong work ethic, and flexibility to work shifts, occasional nights, weekends, and overtime as required.
  • Candidates should possess or be willing to obtain relevant industry certifications, such as Sector Scheme 12 qualifications or equivalent traffic management training.
  • Previous experience in traffic management, construction, highways, or a related field is beneficial but not essential for motivated applicants willing to learn.

What does your pay look like coming in as a trainee?

  • Starting pay = National Minimum Wage: £10.85 (U21) and £12.71 (21+).
  • After 4 to 6 months, your pay can increase to £13.05 (day shift), £13.40 (night shift), and £13.90 (weekend shift).
  • Within 6 to 12 months, with the required qualifications, your pay could rise to £13.60 (day shift), £15.70 (night shift), and £16.85 (weekend shift)

*Payrates for experienced operatives is dependant on qualifications held.
