CCL are working with a client to recruit a Commercial Manager with a solid utilities background.
This role will be 3 days per week in Colchester and 2 days from home.

Duties
Working closely with the Group Commercial Director and Operations Director, the role is responsible for managing the commercial lifecycle of projects from contract award through to final account, maximising profitability, managing contractual risk and embedding best practice across the business.
The successful candidate will lead the commercial team, including mentoring the Junior Quantity Surveyor, while driving continuous improvement in commercial reporting, cost control and project performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of all MRP Gas Utility contracts.
- Produce and manage monthly CVRs, forecasting and profitability reporting.
- Lead NEC contract administration, Compensation Events and Early Warnings.
- Ensure accurate project cost allocation and commercial reporting.
- Manage subcontract procurement, valuations and final accounts.
- Review labour, plant, materials and subcontract costs.
- Work closely with the Operations Director to improve project profitability.
- Mentor and develop the Junior Quantity Surveyor.
- Implement and improve commercial systems, governance and reporting.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Support tender reviews and future work opportunities.
- Build strong client and supply chain relationships. Scope of Role
Budget Responsibility
Commercial responsibility for multiple live utility projects with an annual turnover exceeding Β£15 million.
Decision-Making Authority
Lead the day-to-day commercial function, approve commercial recommendations within delegated authority, lead negotiations and escalate significant risks.

Essential
- 5+ years' commercial management experience within Gas Utilities, Utilities or Civil Engineering.
- Strong NEC3/NEC4 knowledge.
- Experience producing CVRs and forecasts.
- Experience leading a commercial team. Strong commercial and financial awareness.
- Excellent Excel and communication skills.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
Desirable
- MRP Gas Utilities experience.
- Commercial software experience.
- RICS/CIOB membership.
Qualifications
- Degree/HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or equivalent, or significant relevant industry experience.
