Due to continued business growth, our client, a well–established and reputable Civil Engineering Contractor, is seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to join their expanding HSE team on a permanent basis. Working closely with construction project delivery teams, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting, advising, and implementing Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) processes, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives across a variety of construction sites throughout Scotland.
Reporting to senior management, the Health & Safety Advisor will provide both technical and administrative support to ensure the highest standards of HSE performance and compliance are achieved across all projects.
Key Responsibilities
- HSE Management & Planning
- Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of key HSE management plans, including Project Management Plans (PMP), Construction Phase Plans (CPP), and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Assist with the preparation and approval of Risk Assessments & Method Statements (RAMS) and work permits.
- Safety Leadership & Engagement
- Deliver and support site safety inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
- Promote behavioural safety initiatives and foster a positive, proactive safety culture across project teams.
- Technical Support & Compliance
- Provide expert advice and guidance on HSE matters throughout all phases of project delivery, from tender to completion.
- Ensure compliance with company HSE Management Systems, industry regulations, and best practices.
- Support HSE monitoring, auditing, and reporting, identifying key trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Incident Management
- Assist with incident and near–miss investigations, ensuring accurate reporting, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions.
- Risk Management & Review
- Identify potential hazards and support teams in developing effective mitigation measures.
- Conduct project reviews to highlight unusual risks and opportunities for improvement.
- Client & Stakeholder Liaison
- Represent the company at client HSE meetings and project progress reviews, ensuring clear communication and a collaborative approach to safety management.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience within a civil engineering or construction environment.
- Strong passion for health, safety, and environmental excellence.
- NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate (minimum).
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and SharePoint applications.
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel, including overnight stays as required.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem–solving skills.
- Proactive, self–motivated, and able to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, ideally working towards Chartered IOSH status.
- Flexible and adaptable approach to managing multiple projects and priorities.
