The Opportunity

Looking to move your civil engineering career towards the commercial side? We are currently recruiting for a Measurement Engineer to join a major civil engineering project in South Lanarkshire, supporting the commercial team with accurate measurement, quantities, valuations and site records. This is a site-based civil engineering measurement role, ideally suited to someone with hands-on civils experience who understands how works are constructed and can accurately measure and quantify completed works. You do not need to be a qualified Quantity Surveyor. We are interested in people with strong civil engineering and measurement experience who want to develop their commercial knowledge.

The Role:

  • Measuring completed works on site
  • Measuring earthworks, drainage, roads, concrete and utilities
  • Checking completed works against drawings and specifications
  • Recording quantities and producing accurate measurement sheets
  • Supporting monthly valuations
  • Measuring subcontractor works and checking quantities
  • Identifying variations and changes to the works
  • Working with the Site Engineer to reconcile drawings, surveys and actual construction
  • Maintaining accurate records to support the commercial position
  • Using Excel, AutoCAD, Bluebeam and/or measurement software

You will essentially be the link between what is physically happening on site and the information required by the commercial team. For example, where the QS needs to value a significant amount of earthworks completed during the month, you will help gather the site information, calculate quantities and provide the measurement records that underpin the valuation.

The Ideal Candidate

This role could suit:

  • Site Engineers with strong measurement experience
  • Setting-Out Engineers with commercial awareness
  • Assistant QSs with strong site exposure
  • Measurement Engineers from a civils background
  • Civil Engineering Technicians with relevant measurement experience
  • Junior or Assistant Quantity Surveyors who prefer a site-based role

Strong experience with earthworks, drainage and general civils quantities is more important than being professionally qualified as a QS.
