Company Overview: Our client, a well-established regional civil engineering contractor, is looking to strengthen their team with the appointment of an experienced Contracts Manager on a permanent basis. This role involves overseeing site teams across a diverse range of civil infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on groundworks for commercial and residential developments.

Role Overview: As Contracts Manager, you will play a pivotal role in steering the strategic direction and operational success of the business. This senior-level position requires strong leadership, sound judgement, and a clear vision to ensure projects are delivered efficiently and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Client Relationship Management: Build and maintain robust relationships with both new and existing clients, including local authorities, construction firms, and private sector organisations. Act as the principal point of contact, ensuring client satisfaction and nurturing long-term partnerships. Proactively strengthen client engagement to support sustained business growth.
  • Business Development: Identify and develop new business opportunities across target markets. Actively pursue and convert commercial prospects to increase turnover and market presence.
  • Negotiation and Pricing: Lead pricing and service negotiations with clients. Ensure pricing structures are commercially competitive and aligned with company goals.
  • Invoicing and Financial Oversight: Supervise the invoicing process, ensuring invoices are issued accurately and promptly. Oversee financial transactions to ensure smooth cash flow and account reconciliation.
  • Resource Management: Oversee the day-to-day allocation of plant, labour, and materials across multiple sites. Schedule new hires in line with workload demands and project timelines to maximise efficiency.
  • Market Insight: Remain up to date with current market trends, competitor activity, and wider industry developments. Offer strategic insights to enhance service delivery and maintain competitive advantage.

Requirements:

  • Degree or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience managing civil engineering projects at a senior level.
  • Demonstrated ability to oversee multiple concurrent projects with effective resource management.
  • A methodical and organised approach to project planning and execution.
  • Strong commercial awareness and strategic thinking, with a focus on delivering financially successful outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to be available on call as required to meet operational needs.
