The Section Engineer will play a pivotal role in the successful delivery of defined sections of work on complex infrastructure projects delivered through long-term, regulated frameworks. Working closely with site and project leadership teams, you will take ownership of engineering coordination, technical compliance, and construction quality within your area of responsibility. The role requires a hands-on, solutions-focused engineer who can translate design intent into safe, efficient, and compliant site execution while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and performance across transport and public infrastructure environments.
Engineering & Technical Delivery
- Lead and coordinate engineering activities within your section, ensuring accurate execution of design, installation, and testing works.
- Interpret technical drawings, specifications, method statements, and approved plans to inform on-site delivery.
- Provide technical guidance and support to site teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Identify and resolve technical/engineering issues promptly, escalating where appropriate.
Quality, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure all activities adhere to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards in line with company and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct site inspections, quality checks, and verification of workmanship against specification.
- Assist in preparation and review of risk assessments, method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), and compliance documentation.
Programme & Coordination
- Support delivery programme by planning work sequences, coordinating resources, and managing interfaces between disciplines/contractors.
- Attend project and coordination meetings, provide updates on engineering progress, and contribute to issue resolution.
- Maintain accurate records of activities, progress reports, and as-built documentation.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Liaise professionally with clients, design teams, subcontractors, and other delivery partners to ensure collaborative working relationships.
- Communicate clearly and effectively with team members to support project outcomes.
Experience & Qualifications
- Proven experience working as a Section Engineer or similar role within infrastructure, civil engineering, transport, or public works projects.
- Experience in regulated frameworks or long-term infrastructure delivery is desirable.
- Competent with reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Relevant engineering qualification (e.g., HNC/HND/BEng) or equivalent practical experience preferred.
