Location: Glasgow
Type: Permanent

Reference: J45754
Our client is one of Scotland's most established civil engineering contractors, delivering major infrastructure and energy projects across the UK. As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint a senior commercial leader who can provide contractual and commercial direction across a complex portfolio of projects and play a key role in supporting the continued success of the business. This is not a traditional quantity surveying role. The position is focused on contract management, commercial risk, governance and supporting operational teams to ensure projects are set up for success from tender stage through to delivery.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership, influencing key commercial decisions and helping protect and strengthen the company's contractual position across its project portfolio. This role is equivalent in seniority to a Head of Contracts position and would suit an experienced Commercial Manager, Senior Commercial Manager, Managing Quantity Surveyor or contracts specialist looking to take on a broader strategic role.
The Opportunity
- Provide commercial and contractual leadership across a portfolio of major civil engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Review, negotiate and manage construction contracts including NEC, FIDIC and SBCC forms.
- Identify commercial, contractual and legal risks and advise on mitigation strategies.
- Support tendering and pre-construction activities to ensure projects are established on a strong commercial footing.
- Lead commercial discussions with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Develop commercial governance, processes and best practice across the business.
- Support claims management, contract change control and dispute avoidance.
- Work closely with operational, commercial and estimating teams to improve project performance and profitability.
- Provide guidance and support to senior leaders on contractual and commercial matters.
What We're Looking For:
We are interested in speaking with commercially minded leaders who have experience operating within a civil engineering, infrastructure or utilities contractor environment. You are likely to have:
- Extensive commercial experience within a contractor environment.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts and ideally FIDIC and/or SBCC.
- Experience negotiating contracts and managing commercial risk.
- The ability to influence senior stakeholders and build credibility across operational and commercial teams.
- A background in quantity surveying, commercial management, contracts management or a related discipline.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and commercial decision-making.
What's on Offer
- Senior leadership role within a highly respected Scottish contractor.
- Opportunity to influence commercial strategy and contractual governance.
- Involvement in some of Scotland's most significant infrastructure and energy projects.
- Long-term career prospects within a stable and growing business.
- Competitive salary, car allowance, bonus and comprehensive benefits package.
