Not every estimating role is just about producing numbers. Some give you the opportunity to influence the direction of a business, work on projects that genuinely interest you, and enjoy the flexibility to do your best work without being tied to an office. This is one of those opportunities.

An established and growing Scottish civil engineering and renewables contractor is continuing to secure new work across infrastructure, renewable energy and public sector frameworks. As a result of this sustained growth, they are looking to appoint an Estimator who wants to do more than simply price tenders.

Working closely with the business owner and senior operational team, you will play a key role in identifying opportunities, shaping bids and helping win projects that will drive the business forward. Your opinion will be valued, and you will have genuine visibility of the wider commercial strategy.

This is a business that trusts its people. You will have the flexibility to work from home for much of the week, manage your own workload and focus on delivering quality rather than clock-watching. If you are an experienced estimator who enjoys autonomy, you will be given the freedom to work in a way that suits you.

The Role

You will take ownership of tenders from enquiry through to submission, preparing competitive and commercially robust estimates across a varied portfolio of civil engineering and renewable energy projects. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and contract documentation
  • Obtaining and evaluating quotations from suppliers and subcontractors
  • Working alongside delivery teams to ensure buildability and commercial risks are understood
  • Supporting successful bid submissions and helping secure future work

About You

You will probably already be working as an Estimator or Senior Estimator within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities or a similar contracting environment. You will also be someone who:

  • Enjoys taking ownership of your work
  • Thinks commercially as well as technically
  • Produces accurate, well-considered estimates
  • Wants to be part of a business where your contribution genuinely matters

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Flexible hybrid working with genuine home-based flexibility
  • Strong pipeline of secured work across multiple sectors
  • Diverse projects that keep the role interesting
  • Direct access to decision-makers with the opportunity to influence future projects
  • A supportive, down-to-earth culture built on trust rather than micromanagement

If you are looking for an estimating role that offers flexibility, variety and the chance to have a real impact within a growing business, I would be happy to tell you more.
