An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Health and Safety Lead to join a leading national infrastructure services provider on a permanent basis, supporting projects across Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Our client is a well-established name in the delivery of a wide-ranging portfolio of civil engineering schemes in partnership with Transport Scotland. From road maintenance and bridge repair to complex geotechnical and structural works, the organisation is committed to delivering excellence in asset management, winter maintenance, and incident response across Scotland’s strategic road network.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team to deliver a safe working environment through the effective and efficient implementation of services across a variety of operational settings. You will ensure adherence to best practice across Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ) standards.
In this role, you will support the HSEQ Director, helping ensure the business consistently meets its statutory and organisational obligations in line with current legislation and subscribed standards.
Key Responsibilities- Actively contribute to strategic planning and support the delivery of key objectives, with Health & Safety placed at the core of operational delivery.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with Account Teams, Operational Safety Advisers, and other key stakeholders to encourage a collaborative approach to safety and compliance.
- Ensure operational teams are consistently applying mandatory health and safety policies and procedures.
- Remain up to date with changes in Health & Safety legislation and developments in industry best practice through structured and ongoing professional development.
- Operate within the organisation’s broader governance framework to maintain consistency across all areas of the business.
- Provide oversight and leadership to ensure that incident investigations are robust, with root cause analysis carried out and effective preventative measures implemented.
- Demonstrable experience in a senior Health & Safety role, with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
- Prior experience working on civil engineering, highways, and infrastructure projects is essential.
- Proven leadership experience in a managerial capacity, ideally within a similar environment.
- A proactive, solutions-focused attitude aligned with the client’s values.
- Ability to influence and embed a sustainable improvement in HSEQ culture and performance.
- Track record of successfully leading cultural change and implementing safety initiatives.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
- NEBOSH qualification is essential.
- A full UK driving licence is required.
