If you’re the type of HSE professional who prefers boots on the ground over sitting behind a desk, this role will suit you.

This construction & civil engineering contractor are engaged on a series of large-scale energy projects and need someone who can embed themselves in site teams, challenge when needed, and genuinely influence how safety is delivered day-to-day.

This isn’t a tick-box role — it’s about communication, being visible, credible, and respected on site.

You’ll be supporting live construction environments where pace is high, standards are non-negotiable, and the expectation is that HSE is part of every conversation, not an afterthought.

If you're not from East Lothian, then accommodation can be provided, and the projects have an on-site chef to provide breakfast & lunch.

The Role Working closely with both the HSEQ Manager and Project Manager, you’ll act as a key link between strategy and site delivery — helping ensure everything from documentation to behaviours aligns with best practice.

Your day-to-day will include

  • Carrying out site inspections, audits, and safety reviews, with a focus on practical improvement rather than paperwork
  • Supporting site teams with all aspects of HSE compliance and best practice
  • Delivering clear, engaging site inductions to operatives, subcontractors, and visitors
  • Leading or supporting investigations into incidents, near misses, and unsafe behaviours
  • Monitoring subcontractor compliance, including training, certifications, and insurances
  • Attending site meetings and contributing to planning and coordination discussions
  • Producing and reviewing key documentation such as RAMS, COSHH assessments, construction phase plans, and permit systems
  • Keeping statutory records up to date (LOLER, PUWER, plant, training etc.)
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of HSEQ systems and procedures What They’re
