Senior Engineer / Supervisor – Edinburgh (Freelance)

We're recruiting for a Senior Engineer to join a busy civil engineering contractor on a long-term project in the Edinburgh area. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys setting out but is also looking to develop their supervisory and site management responsibilities.
The role will involve overseeing the installation of traffic barrier works during day shift operations, with occasional night shift working required every few weeks to support programme-critical activities. This position offers a great balance between engineering and supervision, making it ideal for someone looking to progress towards Site Management.
The Role
- Managing and supervising traffic barrier installation works
- Setting out and engineering support as required
- Coordinating subcontractors and site operations
- Monitoring quality, safety and programme performance
- Liaising with management, clients and site teams
- Supporting delivery of both day and occasional night shift works
Requirements
- Previous experience as a Site Engineer or Senior Engineer on civil engineering projects
- SMSTS or SSSTS (essential)
- Valid CSCS Card
- Strong setting out and site coordination experience
- Good understanding of health & safety and quality procedures
- Ability to supervise teams and manage work activities effectively
Hours & Rates - Day Shift
Monday to Friday 8:00am – 4:30pm £35 per hour
Hours & Rates - Night Shift
Typically required every few weeks 10:00pm – 4:30am £45 per hour
