Overview

Our client, a leading civil engineering contractor, has secured a series of significant substation projects as part of a larger framework for their key client, SSEN.

They are seeking an experienced and motivated Commercial Manager to take responsibility for a substation project in Orkney, where you will report directly to the Senior Commercial Manager. This is an excellent opportunity to play a central role in the delivery of major power sector works.

The Role

This position is site based in Orkney, with regular visits required to the head office on the outskirts of Glasgow. A flexible approach to work and a willingness to travel to other project sites will be essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the commercial management of a major power sector project, ensuring strong financial performance and compliance.
  • Develop and implement commercial strategies to maximise profitability and minimise risk.
  • Lead, mentor and manage a team of Quantity Surveyors and commercial professionals.
  • Manage contract negotiations, procurement processes and supplier relationships.
  • Provide strategic advice on contractual matters, dispute resolution and risk management.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations and company policies.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience as a Commercial Manager within the construction or power sector.
  • Strong knowledge of construction contracts, procurement and commercial management.
  • Proven leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent negotiation, analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Professional accreditation (RICS, CIOB, etc.) desirable but not essential.
