Core Mission: As a core member of our UK & European BESS Project team, you will lead energy storage project development from Ready to Build (RTB) to Financial Close and COD and assure operating and financial models, together with delivering projects involving the funding/financing of infrastructure development. In this role, you will bring together technical construction knowledge and commercial understanding to support the grid and civil engineering aspects of site acquisition, development, and delivery. You will work closely with planning, development, and finance teams to ensure projects are technically robust, compliant, and optimised for construction and long-term operation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contract & Stakeholder Management
    • Coordinating technical inputs across grid, civil and construction workstreams.
    • Serve as the main point of contact between the client and internal project team.
    • Understand and manage project delivery in accordance with FIDIC-based EPC contracts and Grid connection regulations.
    • Ensure effective communication, coordination, and reporting across all parties.
  • Project Planning & Execution
    • Lead the planning, scheduling, and coordination of BESS EPC projects in compliance with contracts, technical specifications, and quality standards.
    • Liaising with network operators on milestones, payments and connection requirements.
    • Follow project scope, goals, and deliverables in coordination with the client and internal stakeholders.
    • Develop detailed project plans and resource allocation.
  • Schedule Control & Delivery
    • Manage project resources, schedules, and budgets to ensure on-time and on-quality delivery in line with Connection Reforms milestones.
    • Reviewing and optimising grid connection offers and technical solutions.
    • Assessing site layouts, access, topography and cable routes for constructability.
    • Ensuring project designs meet all technical, compliance and grid standards.
    • Managing and negotiating with contractors, ICPs and technical consultants.
    • Supporting technical due diligence for acquisitions and investment decisions.
    • Capture cost efficiencies during pre-construction phases without compromising project scope.
    • Track progress against milestones and contractual obligations.
    • Identify and mitigate risks, delays, and issues affecting delivery.
  • Compliance Management
    • Manage project contracts, change orders, and claims in line with FIDIC or similar frameworks.
    • Ensure compliance with HSE, ESG, and local regulatory requirements.
    • Oversee subcontractor performance and adherence to quality and safety standards.
  • Quality, HSE & Reporting
    • Work with QHSE, Technical and other functions and other internal parties to ensure all works are performed according to design, quality, and safety requirements.
    • When needed conduct and lead site meetings, inspections, and audits.
    • Prepare periodic progress reports and management summaries.

Requirements:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum 3-5 years in BESS EPC project management or similar roles (Senior Project Engineer / Project Coordinator).
    • Solid understanding of the BESS project lifecycle and EPC delivery processes.
    • Basic knowledge of the Connection Reforms process and its impact on project milestones and execution.
    • Experience working with FIDIC-based or similar EPC contracts.
    • Strong skills in planning, scheduling, coordination, and stakeholder management.
    • Familiarity with HSE/ESG requirements and subcontractor oversight.
    • Proactive, organized, and able to manage risks, deadlines, and reporting effectively.
    • Project management accreditation (e.g., PMI-PMP, APM).
  • Skills:
    • Proven and relevant track record as a Project Manager for grid-scale renewable energy construction projects.
    • Project management experience across a range of disciplines, contracts, and procurement models.
    • Strong HSE focus, with a proven track record in managing CDM regulations.
    • Ability to manage a wide range of stakeholders and a team of support staff.
    • Experience working with a systematic, risk-based management approach.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to foster and promote collaborative working relationships.
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, coupled with the confidence to explain technical details clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Education: Master's degree in engineering. Chartered Status preferred.
  • Language: Fluent in English (written/spoken); additional European languages are a plus.
  • Mobility: Ability to travel frequently between China and UK & Europe.
  • Additional skills:
    • Full lifecycle project experience (development through commissioning).
    • Knowledge of FIDIC contract forms and construction delivery frameworks.
    • Familiarity with private wire arrangements and emerging energy infrastructure solutions.
