An established and growing precision engineering and manufacturing business is looking to recruit
five experienced CNC Setter/Operators
to join its production team on a
permanent night shift . We are looking to recruit: 2 × Nakamura CNC Setter/Operators
2 × CNC Machining Centre Setter/Operators
1 × Multus CNC Setter/Operator
These are hands-on positions suited to experienced CNC machinists who are confident setting and operating CNC machinery, proving programmes, making offsets and adjustments, and producing precision components to engineering drawings and tight tolerances. Night Shift
The permanent night shift operates: Monday to Thursday – 18:00 to 06:00 Successful candidates will initially work on the
day shift for approximately three weeks
to complete training and become familiar with the machinery, processes and production requirements. Following training, you will move onto the permanent night shift. Pay
Basic rate: £17.00–£18.00 per hour
30% Night Shift Allowance
Enhanced night rate: £22.10–£23.40 per hour
The Role
As a CNC Setter/Operator, you will be responsible for setting, proving and operating CNC machinery to manufacture precision components safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. Your responsibilities will include: Setting and operating CNC machinery in line with production requirements.
Setting and securing components using appropriate fixtures, vices and clamping methods.
Selecting, setting and measuring tooling, including tool offsets, work offsets and datum setting.
Proving new and existing CNC programmes, including dry runs and first-off checks.
Making minor programme edits and adjustments where required.
Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances and route cards.
Monitoring machining processes and making controlled adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
Carrying out in-process inspection using verniers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges and other inspection equipment.
Identifying and resolving machining issues including tool wear, dimensional variation, surface finish and fixture problems.
Supporting programme improvements, cycle-time reductions and continuous improvement activity.
Completing production records, inspection sheets and other required documentation.
Maintaining good housekeeping around machines, tooling, fixtures and work areas.
Carrying out TPM and following all health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.
Reporting machine faults, tooling issues, non-conformances and production concerns to the relevant supervisor or manager.
About You
We are looking for experienced CNC machinists with a strong understanding of precision engineering and CNC machining. You should have: Around
3 years' experience setting and operating CNC milling or machining centres
within a precision engineering or manufacturing environment.
Experience with CNC controls such as
Fanuc, Siemens and/or Okuma .
Strong knowledge of CNC machining principles, cutting tools, speeds, feeds, workholding and materials.
Experience working to tight tolerances and maintaining consistent component quality.
The ability to confidently read and interpret technical engineering drawings.
Experience using standard inspection and measuring equipment.
The ability to set offsets and make minor programme adjustments.
Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
A reliable and organised approach, with the ability to prioritise production requirements.
Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a wider production team.
Machine Experience
Nakamura CNC Setter/Operators – 2 positions We are looking for experienced Nakamura machinists who are confident setting and operating CNC turning equipment and producing precision components. CNC Machining Centre Setter/Operators – 2 positions Experience on CNC machining centres is required. Experience with machines such as
DMG Mori CMX 800, Makino, DMU and Okuma horizontal machining centres
would be advantageous. Multus CNC Setter/Operator – 1 position We are looking for an experienced Multus machinist with strong CNC setting and operating skills and the ability to work accurately to engineering drawings and production requirements. Qualifications & Experience
A
time-served engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification
is preferred. However, relevant
CNC machining, milling, setting or manufacturing experience may be considered in place of formal qualifications . Additional training in quality systems, manual handling, lifting equipment or health and safety would be advantageous. The Person
