Role: Workshop Chargehand
Location: Manchester, M17 1EH
Hours: 45 hours per week | between 08:00 and 17:30, Monday to Friday
Salary: £46,074.60 - £48,461.40 per annum (depending on experience)
Are you ready to take charge? As a Workshop Chargehand, you will oversee workshop personnel and equipment, ensuring top-notch service and strict compliance with roadworthiness guidelines. You will serve as the go-to contact for both external and internal customers while maintaining high standards of health and safety.
Key Responsibilities:- Vehicle Maintenance: Service, repair, and maintain vehicles to DVSA standards.
- People Management: Plan and control workshop staff, manage break times, and support team development.
- Customer Relations: Communicate directly with customers, build repair quotes, and ensure high satisfaction.
- Job Planning: Plan workshop jobs effectively, sign off service sheets, and manage work-in-progress (WIP).
- Compliance: Inspect and prepare vehicles for HGV MOTs, maintain accurate documentation, and uphold rigorous health and safety regulations.
- Knowledge: Strong understanding of HGVs, specialist municipal/refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), and general commercial vehicle repair.
- Experience: Proven track record in vehicle maintenance and repair, covering both body and chassis.
- Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance (or equivalent qualification) and an active HGV Licence.
- Skills: Strong diagnostic and fault-finding capabilities, ability to read wiring diagrams, effective communication, and sharp problem-solving skills.
- Other: Willingness to travel and attend professional training courses as required.
