Salary: £47,946.88 – £49,587.88 per annum (dependent on experience)
Are you ready to step up and lead? We are looking for a skilled Workshop Chargehand to oversee our workshop personnel, manage daily operations, and keep our fleet running at peak performance. In this role, you will be the main point of contact for internal teams and external customers alike, driving service excellence, vehicle compliance, and a strong culture of health and safety. If you have a strong background in HGV maintenance and the leadership skills to coordinate a busy workshop floor, this is your opportunity to make an impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- People Management: Plan and coordinate workshop staff schedules, manage breaks, and support the ongoing training and development of your team.
- Vehicle Maintenance: Service, repair, and maintain heavy commercial vehicles to strict DVSA standards.
- Job Planning & Flow: Efficiently schedule jobs, manage workshop work-in-progress (WIP), and sign off completed service sheets.
- Compliance & Safety: Inspect and prepare vehicles for HGV MOTs, maintain accurate compliance documentation, and champion rigorous health and safety standards.
- Customer Relations: Keep customers informed, prepare accurate repair quotes, and resolve inquiries with a focus on service quality.
What We’re Looking For:
- Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance (or equivalent) and a valid HGV Licence.
- Experience: A proven track record in commercial vehicle maintenance and repair, covering both body and chassis.
- Technical Knowledge: A solid understanding of HGVs, RCVs (Refuse Collection Vehicles), and municipal/commercial vehicles.
- Key Skills: Strong diagnostics and fault-finding abilities, the capability to read wiring diagrams, and effective communication and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility: A willingness to travel and attend training courses to keep your skills sharp.
