Contek Recruitment are currently working with the industry leaders in high integrity fabrication, welding & tube manipulation. Due to company growth, we are now looking for an NDT Inspector / Weld Co-ordinator to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis, on their night shift. Established in 1974 and based in Walsall, West Midlands, our client maintains a wealth of knowledge and experience manufacturing for the following industries: Power generation, petrochemical, oil & gas, process plant, environmental and nuclear.
As of 2025, they have 8 purpose built manufacturing workshops that cover around 270,000 sqft, of which 10,000 sqft is a dedicated clean conditions area. Each shop is equipped with overhead cranes ranging from 5 tonne to 100 tonne lifting capacity.
WORKING HOURS: Monday to Thursday (5:30 PM to 3:30 AM)
SALARY: £35k per year + 33% shift allowance (total salary is £47k per year)
OVERTIME: Overtime is consistently available - Midweek (time and a third), Saturday (time and a half), and Sunday (double time).
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Review welding requirements.
- Work with production staff to ensure the suitability of welders allocated to each project.
- Front line inspection at fit-up stage.
- Police the welding system by performing random checks on welding parameters, pre-heats etc.
- Final weld inspection.
- Inspect all welding operations taking place and check welding standards are maintained.
- Issue weld procedures.
- Review and manage NDT requirements on all projects.
- Issue PWHT procedures.
- Issue out and maintain weld cards.
- Populate document and certificate packs with welding related information.
- Control consumables through the stores.
- Welding stores maintenance / records/ temperature recording.
- Register and record all weld consumable certificates.
- Periodically review and manage welder qualifications.
- Perform NDT to customer specifications and procedures.
- Maintain inspection reports are filed and up to date.
- Report findings on NDT control cards.
- Liaise with Production Manager and Supervisors.
- Work alongside third-party inspectors.
- Instruct other staff on findings and possible rectification.
- Inspection of rework if required.
- Assist in the control of calibration.
- Responsibility to health and safety and COSHH.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous welding coordination experience or qualification.
- Experience and qualification in NDT techniques (visual, MPI, DPI, etc.)
- Hands on welding experience and knowledge of as many Welding processes as possible (TIG, MIG, STICK, etc.)
- IT Literate.
- Enthusiastic and organised - ability to coordinate themselves and others.
