Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • An On-Cycle (i.e. programme delivery) Weights Engineering role requires assisting with, or ownership of the attribute for the programme, encompassing (but not limited to):
  • Lead the coordination of vehicle weight data across all functional owners.
  • Own programme‑level weight targets, including setting, balancing, and reporting status to Integration and senior teams.
  • Utilisation of set control models to determine the mass and loads of all buildable derivatives on the programme.
  • Lead resolution of key mass related issues, including loads, distribution, and target gaps.
  • Calculate (where appropriate) vehicle mass properties from geometry & first principles.
  • Coordinate generation & maintenance of Vehicle Mass Property models.
  • Lead creation and validation of Loading Charts, ensuring limits are feasible and issues are resolved.
  • Conduct verification of weight for prototype & production vehicles.
  • Lead the certification of vehicle masses with appropriate authorities.
  • Lead in market weight monitoring to ensure vehicles remain within tolerance.

Key Performance Indicators

  • Define competitive vehicle targets, using benchmarking insights to guide programme direction.
  • Monitor and report vehicle status against targets, ensuring readiness and transparency at all programme gateways.
  • Lead administration of the RMDV requirements system, ensuring robust evidence of test and validation compliance.
  • Deliver Vehicle Loading Charts and Parametric Models in line with programme milestones and standards.
  • Produce programme health panel charts to support gateway reviews and decision‑making.
  • Generate certification data to enable timely homologation and regulatory approval.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Customer‑focused mindset geared towards understanding and delivering the needs of internal customers and end users.
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of Weight and Mass Properties and its interaction with other vehicle Attributes.
  • Able to prioritise own time and work load.
  • Aptitude for engineering, testing and evaluation.
  • Able to work precisely and to specified procedures.
  • Prepared to work autonomously at all sites, establishing and maintaining relations with local staff.
  • Whole vehicle engineering knowledge & cross functional experience.
  • Knowledge of technologies associated with the automotive sector, especially relating to weight reduction.
  • Microsoft package elements Project, Power Point and Excel.
