Overview

Functional Safety Project Manager / Engineer position with a premium automotive manufacturer on a long-term rolling contract basis. Location: Crewe, Cheshire. Hybrid working. Long term contract can be Outside IR35.

Position Title: Functional Safety Engineer

Duration: Contract

Location: Crewe, Cheshire

Note: Applicants MUST have proof of immediate, ongoing and valid eligibility to work full time in the UK and travel within the EU.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensuring that relevant vehicle functions are developed in line with ISO 26262, through the application of the Functional Safety process.
  • Covering the entire engineering development lifecycle: Concept, Development, Validation, and End of Life.
  • Support Function Owners to scope the technical impact of changes to Functions, Systems and Components; lead internal & external reviews (e.g., Hazard Analysis & Risk Assessment, Development Interface Agreements).
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for Functional Safety (ISO 26262) within the Electrical Engineering department, developing safety strategies where required.
  • Perform verification reviews for department work products to ensure ISO 26262 compliance.

Skills & Experience

  • Ability to communicate effectively across the company in different forums.
  • Design and development skills; ability to influence colleagues within your area of responsibility.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities.
  • Knowledge of electrical vehicle functions including electronic hardware, software and systems.

Practical & Technical Knowledge

  • Technical knowledge and practical experience of Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments, Functional Safety Concepts, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis and Systems Engineering.
  • Ability to lead safety review meetings.

Qualifications

  • Engineering Degree or equivalent.
  • Associate membership of a relevant professional institution preferable.

  • Responsibility for ensuring that local Health and Safety policies and procedures are followed to ensure own safety and the safety of others.
