Contechs is recruiting for a Vehicle Efficiency Attribute Lead Engineer to join a leading automotive OEM based in Gaydon. This is a pivotal role within the Vehicle Architecture team, where you will lead the delivery of key vehicle efficiency attributes including driving range, energy consumption, fuel economy, and CO₂ emissions across advanced vehicle programmes. You will work closely with the Efficiency Product Owner and cross-functional stakeholders, ensuring targets are robust, achievable, and aligned to both customer expectations and legislative requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Efficiency Product Owner in delivering core vehicle efficiency attributes
  • Lead strategic target setting including benchmarking, legislative requirements, and customer data analysis
  • Cascade and arbitrate targets across key vehicle energy nodes, including: Aerodynamics, Weight, Powertrain efficiency, Climate systems, HV battery energy
  • Ensure compatibility between vehicle-level efficiency targets and system/sub-system performance
  • Conduct virtual verification activities and data-driven analysis
  • Identify, assess, and communicate risks and opportunities to influence engineering decisions
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across engineering and business functions to meet Quality Operating Schedule (QOS) targets
  • Support vehicle programme governance, ensuring efficiency assumptions and data are robust and accessible
  • Work closely with tools & methods teams to enhance efficiency development capability
  • Contribute to technology roadmap development aligned with future efficiency targets and customer trends

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Strong engineering background with a structured, data-driven problem-solving approach
  • Proven experience in vehicle attribute delivery and/or system-level engineering
  • In-depth knowledge of vehicle efficiency homologation and certification processes
  • Strong understanding of vehicle energy performance, including: Road load, Propulsion efficiency, Electrical loads, Impact on emissions, consumption, and range (ICE, Hybrid & EV)
  • Ability to interpret and present complex data clearly, using visualisations to support decision-making
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

Education

Degree qualified (or equivalent experience), ideally in: Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering. Significant relevant automotive industry experience.
