I am currently working with one of my clients who are one of the world’s first Electric Adventure Vehicles. They are an American automotive technology company. They are currently searching for a Body Closures Design and Release Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. You will be based within the body engineering team working onsite the production plant in Chertsey, Surrey. Permanent position only. Excellent salary with excellent benefits.
Responsibilities:
- Production release responsibility for all closures mechanisms related to the opening and closing actions of the door and door glass including latches, handles, release cables, window regulators, or other such mechanisms for all exterior closures.
- Lead collaborative development of closures mechanisms including interface with body engineering, studio design, and customer experience teams.
- Responsible for component release for closures mechanism components throughout program lifecycle, including: concept design, supplier engagement, BOM management, systems requirements, simulation analysis, prototyping builds, validation testing, and production support.
- Supporting all supplier selection and development with heavy interface to purchasing and from supplier engagement.
- Supporting the development of best practices for design and release engineering.
- Developing and managing your part system, subsystem, and component information through the Enovia PLM to Catia V6 environment.
- Engage in debate and discussions during all body design reviews as a stakeholder and representative of closures mechanisms.
- Mentor other less experienced engineers.
- Be a champion of good, fundamental design in the body system and across the vehicle.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of an automotive design and development process, system requirements, and general engineering best practices.
- Understanding of closures mechanisms components and the tradeoffs among design, package, function, and customer experience involved with these systems.
- CAD design experience for closures systems, mechanisms, structure, or related vehicle components – Catia experience preferred but not required.
- An eagerness to work cross-functionally in a dynamic environment where you are part of a team.
- A strong understanding of the first-principle physics of a closures system – the loads, forces, and overall function of the system.
- Familiarity with typical manufacturing materials and processes utilized in closures design – steel, aluminium, composite, stamping, injection molding, bolting, and welding for example - and associated design requirements associated with these materials and processes.
- A system approach to design and development with the desire and curiosity to strive for continuous improvement.
