OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

To provide technical and operational support of a high standard to all of Contact’s performances, participatory projects and operational activities, including maintenance. Technically supporting artistic activity.

HOURS

This is a zero hour contract with no fixed hours. Shift times are variable in their nature but will be a minimum call of 3 hours long. Working days will vary significantly. This can include start times as early as 8am and may extend beyond midnight. Work will include evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.

MAIN TASKS

  • Assist in all areas of technical theatre for activities at Contact, including but not limited to: lighting; sound; audio visual; stage management; other technical effects.
  • Assist in production rigging and construction of settings, scenery, furniture and special effects.
  • Assist in servicing equipment and general maintenance e.g. PAT testing, installation of seating bank.
  • Work closely with Production Technicians and other Casual Technicians as part of a team.
  • Comply with health & safety and legal obligations, and undertake training to assist with the evacuation of the building in the event of an emergency under the supervision of the Duty Technician and Duty Manager.
  • Undertake training to improve technical knowledge and capability.
  • Depending on your experience, duties such as operating lighting, sound, AV equipment, and stage management for technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, performances and other projects.
  • Assist in preparation of all spaces within Contact for a wide variety of events including; dance showcases, plays, exhibitions, workshops, rehearsals, conferences, live music, club nights, poetry readings, arts festivals, meetings, and more.
  • Ensure that working areas are kept tidy and clear of waste material.

ESSENTIAL

  • Punctual, committed, and reliable.
  • Able to work on own initiative as well as part of a team, and have self-motivation.
  • Work well with a wide range of people, taking a positive and flexible approach.
  • Enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills.
  • Clear communicator both verbal and written.
  • Able to carry out your duties/responsibilities in a manner that reflects Contact’s values.
  • Enjoy working with young people in an arts organisation.
  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to Equal Opportunities and Diversity.

DESIRABLE

  • Experience as a Theatre Technician (voluntary, placement or training course included) or experience in other operational and logistical roles with a keen interest in technical theatre.
  • Experience of safely rigging and operating a wide range of light, sound and Multi Media equipment.
  • Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding.
  • Experience with the maintenance of technical equipment.
  • Experience of using Office 365 and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Industry related qualification or similar.
  • Experience of DANTE networking.
  • Experience in the safe use of systems for flying, scenery, setting, properties, special effects and stage machinery and equipment.
  • Experience of Stage Management.
  • Experience of Portable Appliance Testing.
  • Ability to Drive with current driving licence and willingness to drive a larger vehicle if required.
  • Knowledge of responsibilities under Health & Safety, their application and a commitment to best practice.
