Your Role
As a User Experience Designer, you will join the growing Digital Factory community. We value user-centred design, critical thinking, problem solving and building digital services and products. You will champion inclusive design practices throughout project lifecycles, ensuring accessibility for as many users as possible. This includes engaging with diverse user research, applying accessibility guidelines and legislation, and advocating for inclusive design principles in your deliverables.
As a User Experience Designer you will:
- Use different techniques to identify and understand users and their needs, translate user stories, and propose user-focused, evidence-based design approaches.
- Design accessible and impactful products and services for public and private sector clients.
- Employ a wide range of skills, including interviewing users, creating detailed plans, understanding and extrapolating data, facilitating workshops, and presenting research findings.
- Visualise and articulate complex problems, making disciplined decisions based on available information and research evidence.
- Apply technical knowledge to create or design interactive prototypes for products and services.
- Understand and resolve design-centric disputes across varying levels of complexity and risk.
- Lead and guide teams, setting the pace and ensuring delivery.
- Work in a fast-paced, evolving environment using an iterative method and flexible approach for rapid Agile delivery.
- Communicate effectively across organisational and technical boundaries, making complex information accessible for non-technical audiences.

Your Profile
What we'd Love To Meet Someone With:
- Grounding in user-centred design, from concept to final delivery, with knowledge of tools, processes and how to bring an agile delivery team along.
- Experience collaborating with User Centred Design colleagues to synthesise insights and act on outcomes.
- Security Check (SC) Clearance.
- Experience with Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards and design principles.
- Experience with accessibility standards and legislation (e.g., WCAG).
- Experience using design tools such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, InVision Studio, Axure, etc.
- Empathetic approach and ability to listen to technical and business stakeholders and interpret needs clearly for both audiences.
- Ability to present designs and justify decisions using an evidence-based approach.
- Proven ability to create high-quality design concepts and artefacts (personas, service maps, wireframes).
- Understanding of what good digital services look like and how to design inclusively and accessibly.
- Experienced in rapid paper and digital prototyping.
- Ability to build prototypes using code to create dynamic HTML/CSS/JavaScript prototypes.
- Ability to analyse HTML/CSS for accessibility issues.
Ideally, You Would Also Have:
- Certifications in accessibility (CPACC, WAS, CPWA) or working towards.
- Experience testing and auditing assistive technology (JAWS, Dragon, ZoomText) and accessibility features for Windows and macOS.
