As a Principal GCP Engineer, you'll be a true subject‑matter expert for delivering ingenious solutions on the Google Cloud Platform. We'll be looking at you to set direction and take responsibility for successfully achieving an outcome or deliverable. You may have a team of people to support, leading a development team, or else you could be working across multiple teams, providing some centralised expertise necessary for a larger program of work.
You’ll have expertise in architecture and will feel comfortable leading higher‑level architectural discussions. Using your experience of the DevSecOps processes, it’s likely you’ll own the overall process across a team, or multiple teams, building strong principles and putting robust methods and patterns in place. You will be comfortable having conversations with the client regularly, being one of the main points of engagement between the client and the project. Coaching and mentoring the team will be important in the role. You will help shape proposals (working with a bid team) and will leverage your technical skills to articulate appropriate solutions and may present these during a formal selection process. You’ll play an active role in technical account management.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have knowledge of the following products and deep experience in one or more of the categories:
- Cloud Functions, Cloud Run
- Kubernetes Engine, Compute Engine
- VPCs, Service Perimeters
- Cloud Spanner, Cloud SQL, BigQuery, Firestore
- API Endpoints, Apigee, API Gateway
- Vertex AI, Model Garden, ADK and Agent Engine
- Security Command Centre, IAP, IAM
Additionally, you should have a sound understanding of the following Architectural principles:
- Microservices patterns
- Event‑driven architectures and message queues
- Relational and non‑relational databases
- Development and/or scripting experience (e.g. Python, Node, Bash)
- Secured, hardened
In addition to the above, we would be thrilled if you also had:
- Knowledge of other cloud platforms
- Automation DevOps experience using Google tech like Cloud Build and open source tech like terraform
You are pragmatic and already understand that building a platform is only part of what cloud engineering entails. You can clearly communicate with both clients and peers, describing technical issues and solutions in both written and meeting/workshop contexts. You are able to clearly explain technical concepts to non‑technical audiences at all levels of an organisation. You are able to influence and persuade senior and specialist client stakeholders, potentially across multiple organisational boundaries without direct authority. You are a confident problem solver and troubleshooter. You are confident and generous in sharing your specialist knowledge, ideas and solutions. You are constantly learning and able to make others better by consciously teaching and unconsciously inspiring. You are obsessed with ensuring PA’s reputation and credibility is always regarded at a remarkably elevated level, and unafraid to initiate corrective actions should this not be at our desired level.
Life at PA encompasses our peoples' experience at PA. It's about how we enrich peoples’ working lives by giving them access to unique people and growth opportunities and purpose‑led meaningful work. Our purpose guides how we work with our clients and our teams, and support our communities, to deliver insight and impact, solving the world’s most complex challenges. We're focused on building a workplace that values human difference and diverse mindsets, and a culture of inclusion and equality that unlocks the potential in our people so everyone can be their best self.
Benefits:
- Health and lifestyle perks accompanying private healthcare for you and your family
- 25 days annual leave (plus a bonus half day on Christmas Eve) with the opportunity to buy 5 additional days
- Generous company pension scheme
- Opportunity to get involved with community and charity‑based initiatives
- Annual performance‑based bonus
- PA share ownership
- Tax efficient benefits (cycle to work, give as you earn)
