Our client, a well-established and highly regarded waste management business in South Yorkshire, is looking for an experienced HGV Mechanic to join their busy workshop team on a permanent basis.
The ideal candidate will have strong DAF experience and training, together with a solid background in the maintenance, servicing and repair of heavy commercial vehicles.
The Role
As an HGV Mechanic, you will be responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and repair of a varied commercial vehicle fleet, including:
- DAF skip trucks
- Roll-on/roll-off vehicles
- Grab vehicles
- Tippers
- Artic units
- Walking-floor vehicles
- Company vans
Key Responsibilities
- Maintaining and repairing the company's HGV and commercial vehicle fleet
- Preparing vehicles for MOT and presenting them for test
- Using diagnostic equipment to identify and repair faults
- Attending vehicle breakdowns as required
- Replacing wheels and carrying out re-torquing
- Carrying out vehicle inspections in line with Operator Licence requirements
- Completing running repairs and preventative maintenance
- Completing all relevant paperwork and job cards
- Working effectively as part of a busy workshop team
- Supporting colleagues and assisting in other areas of the business when required
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Minimum 2 years' experience as an HGV Mechanic
- DAF training and/or experience
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Experience working on a range of HGVs and commercial vehicles
- Good knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair
- A reliable, professional and team-focused approach
Qualifications & Licences
NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance & Repair or equivalent preferred.
