A well-established fire and life safety contractor is seeking an experienced Fire Installation Engineer to join its team. This is a field-based role with a primary focus on fire alarm installation across commercial and specialist environments.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation and commissioning of fire alarm systems, with additional exposure to wider life safety and security systems depending on experience.
The Role
You will be responsible for installing fire alarm systems to a high standard, carrying out additions, modifications, and upgrades, while working in line with British Standards and client specifications. The role involves working independently and as part of a team across East Anglia, with flexibility to travel when required.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems
- Additions, moves, and changes to existing systems
- Working in compliance with BS 5839-1 (HTM 05-03 Part B desirable)
- Installation and knowledge of fire alarm signalling devices such as Emizon, DualCom, and Permaconn
- Reading and interpreting drawings, plans, and schematics
- Completing site documentation and handover paperwork
- Liaising professionally with customers and internal teams
- Maintaining high standards of workmanship, customer service, and housekeeping
- Adhering to all health & safety requirements and company policies
- Occasional working away, nights, or weekends with reasonable notice
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the fire alarm and life safety industry
- Strong working knowledge of BS 5839-1
- Experience installing conventional and addressable fire alarm systems
- Full UK driving licence
- Good IT skills and ability to complete documentation electronically
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work to deadlines and alongside other contractors on site
Desirable Experience & Qualifications
- Fire alarm commissioning experience
- Experience with security systems such as intruder alarms, access control, CCTV, or nurse call systems
- Supervisor or lead engineer experience
- FIA Fundamentals 1 & 2 or higher
- ECS / CSCS card
- IPAF or PASMA
- FIA Advanced Installer
- Knowledge of HTM 05-03 Part B
