C2R is recruiting for an experienced AOV / Smoke Ventilation Designer to join a specialist business delivering compliant smoke ventilation and smoke control solutions across a range of commercial and residential projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced designer, surveyor or engineer with a strong background in smoke control, smoke ventilation or AOV systems who wants to take responsibility for projects from initial survey and design through to technical delivery and completion.

The Role

You will be responsible for designing, assessing and supporting the delivery of smoke ventilation and smoke control systems, ensuring solutions are practical, compliant and suitable for the individual project requirements. Key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and assessing smoke ventilation, smoke control and AOV systems
  • Undertaking detailed site surveys and technical inspections
  • Reviewing drawings, specifications and project requirements
  • Producing accurate technical reports, designs and supporting documentation
  • Ensuring systems comply with relevant legislation, regulations, standards and codes of practice
  • Providing technical guidance throughout the full project lifecycle
  • Working closely with internal teams, contractors, consultants and clients
  • Reviewing system performance and identifying appropriate compliant solutions
  • Supporting the preparation and review of cause-and-effect documentation where required
  • Ensuring specified products and systems are suitable and appropriately approved for their intended application

Experience Required

We are looking for someone with significant experience within the smoke control or smoke ventilation industry. Ideally, you will have:

  • A minimum of 5 years experience within smoke ventilation design and/or surveying
  • Strong knowledge of AOV, smoke ventilation and smoke control systems
  • Good working knowledge of relevant standards including:
    • BS 7346
    • BS 9999
    • BS 9991
    • BS EN 12101
    • BS ISO 21927
  • A sound understanding of Construction Products Regulations and the application of approved products and systems
  • Experience delivering practical and compliant smoke control solutions
  • The ability to interpret technical drawings, plans and schematics
  • Strong technical reporting and documentation skills
  • Confidence carrying out site surveys and communicating technical findings
  • A relevant engineering, fire safety or technical qualification

Desirable Experience

Experience within any of the following would be particularly beneficial:

  • Fire engineering
  • Mechanical engineering
  • Smoke control consultancy
  • Mechanical or natural smoke ventilation systems
  • Cause-and-effect documentation
  • Technical design reviews
  • Working directly with smoke ventilation manufacturers or specialist contractors

The Candidate

This position would suit someone currently working as a: AOV Designer, Smoke Ventilation Designer, Smoke Control Designer, Smoke Control Engineer, Smoke Ventilation Engineer, AOV Engineer, Smoke Control Surveyor or Smoke Ventilation Surveyor. You will need to be technically confident, commercially aware and capable of communicating effectively with clients, contractors and internal project teams.
