Job Description

Pharmaceutical Microbiologist

Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday)

Salary Dependent on Experience, plus bonus and benefits

The Company

My client is a successful privately-owned pharmaceutical company with a permanent position open for a microbiologst to join their analytical services department.

A medium sized award-winning pharmaceutical manufacturer, they have state of the art facilities and this presents a fantastic opportunity for a microbiologist continuing their career in the pharmaceutical industry.

The Opportunity

This opportunity is based within the analytical services department supporting the contract manufacturing team where you will be testing and monitoring the microbiological quality of pharmaceutical materials and raw materials. This includes unlicensed medicines, investigational medicinal products, and licensed products.

Tests may include:

  • Sterility testing on materials inside a gassed isolator by membrane filtration or direct inoculation.
  • Biological assays on antibiotics.
  • Total viable counts (by pour plate or membrane filtration) and specified organisms

All lab activities will be to GMP standards and you will also monitor production facilities and equipment.

You will be expected to read agar plates and broths, prepare, select and control the storage of microbiological culture media, Monitor and record the temperatures maintained within the microbiology refrigeration and incubation facilities and carry out basic characterisation of bacteria, yeast and moulds.

You will also support on deviations and validations, as well as keep the microbiology laboratory and associated consumables and equipment clean and tidy to avoid any biohazard or cross-contamination issues.

About You

Ideally you will demonstrate industrial microbiology experience outside of academia, preferably in a pharmaceutical environment, supported by education in a relevant scientific subject (i.e. Pharmaceutical Science, Microbiology, Biological Sciences or similar).

As a presentation is part of the interview process, good written and verbal communication skills are required.
